I would rather use a conventional reel and the line depends on how big your reel is.
I use a swivel that can hold up to at least 300 lbs and size 15 wire then you put a 10/0 circle or j hook

The Baitrunner series really isn't made for lure fishing. They are a bit heavier and bulkier for that style of fishing and the baitrunner feature is wasted. You are much better off using them for bait...

I usually use them, especially if I am casting 4 ounces or more. Usually about 2 rod lengths of 50 lb mono. I'll tie my rig straight to my mono if the water is clear and the fish are hitting lightly.

I'm headed Gulf side next month, going after Tarpon, from the beach. One rig
will be a 10' with a Baitrunner. A spool of 50 braid and 100lb floro, as leader.
My web searches have show many variations...

Thanks for setting me straight! K.I.S.S. is a good rule of thumb. I went with
heavy braid and leader to not spend the fish easing a light line. Going to
put a bait out while I work a lure.

I've got an Emblem 902MFS - 9' medium action with lowriders in the corner doing nothing

Ok then we agree i am just saying i would use a different set up for walking the beach. If i was on a pier a 9ft rod would be much more practical. :toast:

Gulp actually works well.

Gulp Alive has the advantage of recharge in the little buckets they sell. I do not buy it very often because of the price tag but then again as mentioned already it seems to...

Yes, just tip a sabiki with bits of squid or shrimp and cast it anywhere there are shallow seagrass beds, you should be able to load up on pins in no time.
