Amazing day on the Helen S today! Tuna inside!

Postby gdm phil » Sun Apr 21, 2013 1:51 pm

Buddy at work asked me to go out with him for his sons bday. We met up at the Helen s with stormy skies but passing showers. We loaded up and off we went. The morning started slow for everyone. Around 930 I pulled in a nice 7 pound king on the verticle.

From there we moved in shore to about 85 feet. I start my usual jigging when out of no where I get hit! The fish starts peeling line. Than he charges the boat I pull in the slack and bam he's right on too at the boat. Mate gaffs him and he's in the box! 30.3 pound black fun tuna! My first one ever! I was pretty much the only one who caught anything. Just goes to show never stop jigging your next drop may be the one.

Really nice blackfin
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

The depth does not surprise me at all, it is the size of it that we should marvel at!!! Nice fish! If I remember correctly in Juno, fairly shallow sometimes among the bonies u get a couple bft here and there.
