I feel for ya, Sounds like you need a ROAD TRIPoceanorange wrote:It's been some time since I've been out on the salt..
I can remember the small details now, since I've been away from the fishing.. The salt burning my lips, the smell of the ocean still in the back of my mind. My fellow companions that fished more than I did, and still fish more than I do now. I can't believe I have been gone from the salt water for 4 months now and I just have to go back to it.
All I think about is the fish I used to catch, the ones that got away, How happy I was when I threw a lure and how unhappy I was when I was tangled on the mess of lines. I can still remember the details of the pier, how it had dirty old rotten fish and chum on the railings, the bird crap that would color my shirt with different S**t patterns. The pelican that always stole my bait, and the seguls that always stole my bait while I casted..
I still remember the early morning sunrise with a hot coffe and a sigarette on my lips.
All I can count on is those pictures that bring me back to the action and friends I made.
This is what makes me a fish aholic, I can't forget.

I too am a fishaholic
More than being a fishaholic I am Obsessive compulsive.
I hear about a lure and I feel a degree of stress until I at least find it and decide if it is worth anything.
I hear about a new way to rig and that night I must rig all my rods that way , or I feel not at ease with life until i have determined if the rig works.
I hear that the moon and tides will be right on a given day and it must go into my written calendar, then I touch the date every day waiting for that day to roll around-like the end of this month, May 31st, to June 1, full moon.
It is more about a feeling of restlessness, or being ill at ease, and the only releif is to have a bait in the water in the exact right location, at the most likely time.
My son too has now gotten the compulsion, Daddy lets go down to that spot, it's always open. No not the pier, the spot thats always open. He won't be denied.
Neither will my soul.

I cant get it out of my head. It's the only hobby I have and I dont even like sports so you can imagine what I'm going thru here guys. Anyway I know I'll be back out soon. Just hoping the baby comes out strong and healthy!! Tight lines homies and save some for me!!!

I'm not an addict!!! Nooo way!!
Ok, so I've been known to stay out fishing all night even if nothings biting. I've been known to fish in a deep puddle or even in stormsewers, lol, yes- when we were kids we would fish the storm sewer on the end of the street. After big storms the water would rise far enough and fish would swim back from the canal. My parents wouldn't let us o to the canal unaccompanied so we would do the next best thing. I've even been known to fish in my dad's fish tank-I was 4 yrs old.
So what if I fish in the rain, thunder and scalding heat. I just can't stop thinking about it- Fishing- its in my blood!
Ok, ok so recognition is the first step BUT I'm not looking for a cure to this affliction. I love being a Fishaholic, wouldn't have it any other way.
Good thing I found this thread. Lately I'd been wondering if such a thing existed, a Fishaholics Anonymous. After an almost 1o year hiatus I'm back into fishing and its been feverish the way I want to go every single day.

Hello My Name is MoJo and I am a FISHAHOLIC.
As of 3-4 weeks ago im off the wagon, Yes it was 27 or so years on the wagon.
My fall from grace 3 weeks ago was with my kids we went to the keys for a "Drive". I saw the water,- The Deep/Light blue water called to me like a Siren from the sea.
Yes it started with a drive. When we got back i went directly to ebay"my second addiction" and promptly spent at least 2 thousand dollars on jigmasters,greenies/ 4/0's
And rods galore! Not to mention a pier cart cooler for bait bucket.
All the items needed for my fall from grace
Now i needed a way to get my stuff to the keys/piers. Sigh 5000 dollars for a van with interior rod racks!
WTF how in the hell did i pay for all this stuff when i was 15 years old
So im begging for some mental health professional to help me deal with my "PROBLEMS".
Unfortuatly i can no longer afford to pay
In 2 weeks ill be in Tijuana Mexico getting some much needed surgery.
4weeks or so after that i shall attempt to go to deerfield pier and catch enough fish to pay for all this equpiment.
So when you see me there feel no pity for me for i am off the wagon and im ok with it. Hell it may keep me off the computer at least for awhile.

yep, got off my fishing depression.
went to the park the other day and to my amazement found a little creek, 6 feet wide, 12-24 inches deep. After so long of trying to ignore my fishing depression the fishing came to me. It just appeared. This little tiny creek had 4, 3 lb. Bass swimming through it. I jumped up with exitement and went to go get my fishing pole out of the trunk of the car...when.... "Jaime... get back here!".. The wife, suddenly woke me out of my Daze and back into "normal life of things.. gota be with the fam and stop thinking of my self....
got a little secret fellas.. I went back after I told the wife I was going to walmart.... took out the gear hidding in my trunk under all the crap I got, just to hide the tools. Put a white jig on, you know, the white crappie jig on.. and whammmm. 2 - 3 lb bass later, I felt like I will never be depressed again...

Hi my name is William aka Capt Wallace And I admit I am addicted. In trying to pay for my I addiction I got my captains lisence at the age of 19 and it just made it worse. I seem to be indulging EVERYDAY. I just dont want do anything else, when I dont have a sponsor for the boat I am always braving the rocks on jetties, waist deep in shark infested waters, or standing on a slippery concrete wall. For some reason I brave these conditions just to try and get that one fish to satisfy my addiction.
Today for example the subtropical storm came through and i found myself driving to every spot I could think to try and get a line wet but just couldnt get out of the wind and rain . So I came home and had to subdue my urges somehow and must of read every thread on this wonderful forum you guys have. If some one could give some guidance in how to conquer this addiction I think Id laugh and mutter some things under breathe.
I love the forum and am looking forward to learning more of how yall do it in the rest of the state Ive been stuck up here in NW part.

I don't think there's a way to stop, I even made my own fishing site just because I have not been fishing enough, I guess we are all on the same page, fishing is an addiction we can't control and I think I don't want to control it....

I know this is old, but I have not noticed this before.
I definatley think that I can be considered an addict. I have caught a fish every day for the past 559 days. It definately is not just quantity. It includes a ton of great fish. I am 16, and I already have carpel tunnel from fishing so much.
There is not really a way to describe the feelings that you get from fishing. It is catching that fish of a lifetime. It watching the sun come up and not knowing what you could catch during the day. It a way to clear your head, but at the same time fill it with as many of the billion variables that go along with fishing as you can. It is being out on the water with family and friends. It is the chance of catching that amazing fish, and doing something that nobody has done before. It is feeling your line pick up the second before you set the hook and not knowing for sure what or how big the fish is that you are about to hook. It is getting hit on a jigor artificial, or getting blown up on a topwater lure. It is the mystery fish, that you lose without seeing that keep you wondering. It is the feeling of accomplishment, amazement and that need try to do it again. It is a combination of these and the indescribable feelings that I keep fishing.
I am definately addicted.

I fish because of this:
The calling river...
The milky water...
The empty road...
The crystal blue skies....
The lapping waves....
The quiet lake...
And the fish that yearn to play...
Fishing is my retreat from the world.

My name is Apprentice and I'm a fishaholic.
Some of the cool things about fishing for me are the unpredictability, the variability, the excitement, the WORK of it, the interface with nature aspect of it, the RAW nature of it (sawing the head off of things comes to mind here), and the way you're totally spent after a long session of preparing, fishing, and cleaning up.
It seems like my two favorite things in life, hell maybe ALL of my favorite things in life, are basically PRIMAL- fishing's one of them.

Just because my wife feels that me and my son spend too much time on or at the sea, does that make me a fishaholic
Just because I gave up a timber logging business to switch my carreer to angling , does that make me a fishaholic.
Just because I refuse to schedule anything or go to weddings or social functions on a fishing competition weekend, does that make me a fishaholic.
I think !!!!!!!! maybe!!!!! just maybe...ummmm.
NO it coudn't be

wow, Im glad Im not like the rest of you guys. I mean, I may lie to my wife about how much money I spend on Fishing equipment. I may have family beach days and bring my fishing gear. When my wife wants to walk down the beach, I may look at her like she is stupid and say" you want me to walk away from a $300.00 pole?
On the days I take my daughter to the library I grab adult fishing books before heading to Dr. Zuess.
Im glad Im not like you guys.

Hi my name is joe and im a fishaholic,
i recently got a job at a marine store just to recieve discounts and now i actually owe them money after a pay period. i rig my rods, throw into a tree in the back of my house across the canal, break it off, just so i can rig again. i follow the ladyfish bite b/c i need that kind of action, snook fishing takes to long. I broke up with a girl b/c she insisted snook was spelled snoek as in ancient english spelling, bit*h. I lie to everyone about where i am, im not at the bar, the club, or the casino. Im somewhere, on some beach or jetty, or some sort of rickety structre, with a broomstick and the thought that this is the time, this is the place, that i need to be. PLEASE HELP, or not i dont care. im going "out"
ps. when's high tide?

I am John, I have recently come to terms with the fact I may be a fishoholic...eversince I got back into regularly fishing this year my addiction grows..I was sober for about 8 years, mostly just did bass fishing as a kid. was messing around one day back in mid march at a boat ramp at the park by my house with a rapala and 12 lb test spinning equipment..i was nothing more than a goog..i got my first snook that day and eventhough he wasn't more than 5-6 lbs, i was hooked and fell in love with snook. i spent alot of time learning about snook and snook fishing, and fishing for them (still haven't been able to completely figure these stubborn guys out, alot of days they won't even acknowledge your bait, some days you can't keep a bait in the water for a few minutes without it getting inhaled) then one day a few months ago at the beach i tried shark fishing for the first time..i jumped my first tarpon that day..i haven't targeted snook since (though i definatly still love hooking up with one when I get the chance) I spend on average of 20-30 hours a week either researching tarpon & tarpon spots, or fishing for tarpon. i spent alot of time observing maps of local beaches, noting the spots where water is deeper closer to shore, structures, passes, ect..i have experimented with several different types of tarpon setups and now that i got it down good with what works best for me i became a tackle junkie and got some more gear so now i bring 4 stout 7-8 ft standup rods with me to the beach spooled with 600-650 yards of 80 lb power pro (i try not to think about how much $ i spend on line, but i hate fishing with mono because you lose so much line capacity and it is much easier to set the hook 100 yards away with braid)..my smallest setup is the only spinning rod i own which i only use for catching bait (or snook sometimes, therefore i keep it spooled with a good amount of 20 lb line) most days there is no casting involved. i am currently saving up for a yak but for the past few months i've been swimming my bloody cut baits out (all i ever fish with) 100-150 yards from shore at spots where i've got quite a few nice sized blacktips and bullsharks..a few months ago i went out and got some scuba fins, and special boots for wearing on the small jetties at the beaches i like to fish off (chicks love em, lol) often times i have to walk a half mile up to 2-3 miles to get to my beach spots due to shitty beach access and i am a big fan of free parking and i will be carrying a 5 gallon bucket with my cast net, 4 big stand up rods (i've become a great swimmer, lol), a spinning rod, a duffle bag with my tackle box and leader and scuba fins, jetty boots, food and drinks inside, with my rod spikes sticking out..it is excellent cardio because some days i can't drag anybody to go with. at that point i have to be nice to the tourists that come by so they will help me by watching my rods and keeping the line taut when i swim my baits out
