Worms in fish
What species are most likely to be wormy? Talking about saltwater. Rather not take them home.

Drum species can be full of worms at larger sizes.

Re: Worms in fish
Is this normal? Are fish with worms still edible? I didn't think about this scenario. Anyone want to explain?

Re: Worms in fish
It is normal. Some species have a higher chance based on location caught , size, and time of year. Trout in the summer tend to be wormy. Amberjacks over 30 lbs tend to be wormy. When I worked at a seafood market I saw just about every species could have worms. That being said if they are cooked enough to kill them the worms will not hurt you.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Just make sure to cook the meat thoroughly to kill the worms. Something else you can do is hold the fillet up to a light and you should see the worms as shadows through the flesh. I did this with some catfish I caught once that were riddled with worms.

Big Amberjack especially at the tail section. Cut them out and Yum-Yum!

My co-workers have no idea how many worms they've probably eaten from my smoked AJ dip. I try to cut them all out but there is always a few left.

The croaker I caught last weekend at anglins had worms. I tossed it it the canal rather than in the oven.

I am wondering if any of you are familiar with an apparent parasite , of some kind. It looks like black pepper sprinkled through the meat . There is a pond close to my home , where the bass and bluegills are loaded with this . They also have Flukes , spread through the meat . Obviously I just catch and release , at this pond.

Wahoo have the worst worms. Not the most, but the most active. I've seen them jump on the cleaning table.

Hey, I have seen that exact same thing in the bass up north in the lakes (in Canada). Like black pepper, inside the actual fillet. Well, I paid no attention to that, cooked up my fish and ate it, and it was GOOD.Sandy Feet wrote:I am wondering if any of you are familiar with an apparent parasite , of some kind. To each his own brother but I wouldn't eat that fish in the pic under any circumstances after I found that mess. I've never been that hungry in my life and hopefully never will.

You mean tapeworms? It's always a gamble with fish. It's important to cook it right.
A good racehorse is a passport to the enclosure. Right? I know it's possible to manage stock horses at cheltenham Festival 2017. Yeah, I like discussing racehorses.
