Free lining / Live lining
What gear do you guys think is the best for free lining for snook, tarpon, cuda, etc.
I bought a penn battle 2 6000, with a 6,6 rod, do you think its good for free lining or is it too big. Please let me know, thanks
Just started fishing again sooo....

If you are fishing from the beach yea it will work anywhere that has structure ie pier bridge jetty you will be at a disadvantage when you need to steer them away from structure.

from land you want a long rod. like 7'6 at least, often 8'. on a boat a 6'6 rod is good

Re: Free lining / Live lining
It's hard to sight cast snook from the pier with a heavy reel/line combo with tiny bait. But for bigger baits that reel is a great choice.
I'd go buy an 8ft broom stick if I were you. Like a cheap ugly stick thats very stiff. Button the drag down tight and whip the fish as fast as you can.
That being said you can def catch fish with your setup. Might lose a few to the bridge pilings, but it's all good.

MY GO TO ROD FOR THE PIER HAS ALWAYS BEEN A 6'6 SPINNING STAR ROD, AROUND 20LB BLANK WITH A SPINFISHER 4500 AND 20LB MONO. I HAVE CAUGHT MORE SNOOK FREELINING ON THAT ROD THAN MOST PEOPLE CATCH IN THEIR LIFETIME. IF YOUR LOOKING TO THROW LURES LONG DISTANCE FOR COBIA THAN A LONGER ROD IS NECESSARY. WHAT KIND OF ROD DID YOU BUY?

All my rods are Ugly Stiks and my 6500 reels are paired up with 7ft GX2s. Great rods and never had a problem with them on the bridges.

All my rods are 7' and up...dont really like anything shorter than that for landbased or bridge fishing..on a boat is a lil different
