Strongest fighting fish you have fought!
I would vote for Jack Crevalle and Bonita!
I have caught redfish, snook, and quite a few of those other fishes. I would say these two fight the hardest, pound for pound.

Tuna
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Swordfish, hands down... The trouble is that most people target them with huge gear, and rightfully so... However, they are amazing, and have no quit in them. Also, I may be wrong, but they have one of the largest hearts of the animal kingdom pound for pound...

I have caught quite a few redfishs before... compare to jack or bonita... they are not that impressive imho.
Snook does have a great first run but that's basically it... imo

Unfortunately, my favorite freshwater fish is not available here in South Florida. Pound for pound a small mouth bass, particularly on a flyrod, would outfight the LMB which is so popular and plentiful here.

All of mine are from a pier; Tarpon off a pier, Bonita off the pier, Permit off a pier, AJ off the pier, snook first run and sometimes after burners.

The boat that decided to run over my line at channel 2. I've never heard a reel make a noise like that. it was smoking literally. needed to buy a new reel...

Of fish I've actually caught,
Big 'Cuda - hooked off the Rick, literally smoked a Jigmaster!
Tarpon - 1/2 hour battle on a Slammer 4600, Pompano Pier, approx 60lb fish
Big rays - (accidentally hooked), like snagging a truck, been spooled a number of times!
Bonita - amazed every time I hook one of any size!!!

Re: Strongest fighting fish you have fought!
Steelhead, salmon and jacks are pound for pound hardest fighting. When you get into a huge fish it imprints on you no matter what kind of fish it is so that will be your hardest fighter that you can remember.
A 10lb steelhead and a 10 pound jack put side by side are pretty close.

Pound for pound, hard to beat a jack crevalle in my opinion, especially once they get over 20 lbs. A 30 lb jack will kick your ass. If jack crevalles got to be 200 lbs, they would beat up a tuna any day of the week, IMO.

First time coming to florida when I was 12, went out on the Blue Heron out of WPB with my uncle, caught a 55lb Amberjack, won the poll, couldn't move my arms for 3 days, still try to avoid catching them to this day!! hahahaha.. seriously.. it was like an hour and a half fight.. I thought it was a marlin!

Re: Strongest fighting fish you have fought!
In terms of fish on casted gear, the strongest fish that I've ever fought is a Bull Red; I'll never get tired of fighting those things. However, I've always wanted to catch a big Jack, those things are supposed to be a blast to catch.
When it comes to the whole shark fishing realm, pitted against 80w or 12/0 sized reels, the strongest fish I've ever fought is a Tiger shark. They're like tanks and it's amazing how much power they have. Still, I have yet to hook into a Hammerhead, and they have a reputation of being the hardest fighting shark in the ocean. The only thing I know that would beat out a Hammer for inshore fishing would be a Manta Ray, which can give a shark a run for it's money. Heard one story of some guy foul hooking one and having it run so hard that the 12/0 basically exploded

I often use ultra light ugly stick just to get a better fight. I caught a 15 pound carp on ultralight from a canal in plantation. The fight was incredible. Definitely as good as some jacks on bigger rigs.

My hardest fighting fish Marlin by far he's still somewhere running around with 80w of line.
Landed fish personally between a 70lb AJ or 160lb Yellowfin.
