They are getting Pompano in the Morning yesterday and today, this is from the day attendants I was not there, so take it with a pinch but it did sound as though something was happening..

between 1:45pm and 4:30pm yesterday there were about 5-6 pomps landed. Most trying did not get anything and were frustrated….and those that did only got one each. There was no real pattern…..scattered location-wise and some came on bait others on jigs, some babies, and some 15 inches. Other than that, saw one jack almost landed and one runner.

:nilly: :nilly: :nilly: checking in with your buds is not about bragging. Well not where I come from anyway. I swear I'm still surprised every time I am lucky enough to catch another. And I always have a great day when I do. With your time limitations I think that fish is a March home run.

At Anglins, nothing. The biggest thing I've seen caught so far was a huge pufferfish. Just waiting for the pomps

not a fishing report, but a fish report for 3/23. Ditched the fishing gear and headed to the pier with mask, snorkel, and fins yesterday. Wind was out of the sw and felt like 5 - 10 mph. Water was cold for swimming by Floridian standards, but crystal clear and flat. Water felt a few degrees warmer on HW beach, where I spent some time on Sat. In shallow (3-4 ft) there were two 10 in pompano lazily swimming back and forth south of the pier taunting me. Other than the 2 undersize pomps, very little life over the sand, just one small school of micro sand perch and some glass minnows right up against the pier. Over the reef the usual suspects, queen and french angelfish, butterfly fish, parrot fish, chubs, surgeon fish, puffer fish, file fish, trumpet fish, a new one for me -- guitar fish, one blue runner, couple of very small yelllowtail snapper, porkfish, and maybe a few more I'm forgetting. In any case, consider taking a swim insted of fishing when these conditions are present. Im sure in a few weeks you could add tarpon to the list of fish sighted.

Agreed...
I heard some folks at Sea Leg party boat encountered a school of big pompano during night trip... Wondering what those pompanos were doing out there in middle of ocean...there is no sand fleas....

Pompano, mullet, mackeral, bluefish etc it is not uncommon at all during calm and slow current times for the fish to migrate offshore and at night. They have places to be and little fishes to make but need the cover of rough water and current to help them move faster.

The Re Return of the Fishin Kid

Post by Fishin_Kid »

It's true.

On April 4th the Fishin Kid arrives in South Florida again. Has it really been 2009 since he was there last? Time stands still for no man.

Coming in with some new tricks and hopefully a permanent change in venue not long thereafter, though perhaps a little further North than Broward and Palm counties, we'll see.

Feeling somewhat melancholy about this trip, having just learned that another Board and Pier regular passed away a couple years back. I knew him to see him, but enjoyed the civil way he parried with me. I'm referring to Zebco.

I suppose my tribute will have to be in regard to his retorts.

Absolutely made my day. Can you find it Nilsen?

Welcome Kid. I have a feeling about you

Sorry for the loss Mikey. Good friends can't be replaced. But the next time your reel screams on the pier and when you get there......nothing.........lol maybe it's just Joe jerking you off with a 'delivery'.

Hey guys,

I'll be fishing Anglins from Sat to Wed...mostly in the morning until noon. I'll be starting early before sun up...conditions look good  If you are there this weekend and see me, come for a chat.

My prime targets are various species of reef fish (Smooth Trunkfish, Orangespot Filefish, Clown Wrasse, Blackear Wrasse, French Angelfish, Lookdown, Moonfish) and of course Pompano.

It's a short trip this time...only 5 days...but we'll fish like mad men. Hope to see you there! :)

Ken

PS. If you know where I can get clams and fleas, I'd appreciate the info. PM is welcomed if you have any intel to share. :)
