shark leaders

I just bought 49 strand 400 pound test steel wire for shark fishing, the problem is is that it's not plastic coated. Will it still work O.K.?

do you guys use single, 7, or 49 strand leaders? how long of a leader do you use?

thanks but do you guys use single, 7, or 49 strand leaders? like would 11-12 feet of #15 single strand work or would it be better to use braided cable or even braided cable to single to the hook? i have seen all these rigs and everyone has an oppinion, but i wanted to hear it from people who actually fish them and not just someone who sells them.
