Re: Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2009 "ONLY REPORTS"
went this mourning and saw bait fish everywhere. it was mostly a mixture of large pilchards, few ballyhoo, and very small jacks(not crevalle).
even with all the bait in the water, it was quite a slow day. the only fish that I saw caught up there were hounds. I myself hooked three and landing one. overall, great day for outside but fishing......

Some muttons, ytails, and mangroves at night.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Re: Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2009 "ONLY REPORTS"
Went fishing today from 0500 hours - 0800 hours. Water flat with some green, and clear as glass. Had 1 small grunt bite, used it for bait, but nothing went fot it. There were a lot of pilchards around, saw quite a few snook, a number of cudas, but didn't see anything brought up.
I had 2 bites, maybe someone can tell me what the bite sounded like. They were very unlike muttons. Whatever bit, took their time playing with the bait (live pilchards), and then slowly started swimming away with the bait. I saw my baitrunners start moving, slow down, go a bit faster, slow down again, and then when it started picking up a little speed again, I started reeling in. Got quite a pull, and then nothing. The bait had been mauled (not too badly). Any ideas anyone?
I had a fairly funny experience (most probably should be on the Googan Report). A guy and his son were fishing next to me, trying to sabiki some bait to no avail. Their rig was set up with line to swivel, to wire, to swivel, to top of sabiki. They were asking questions about fishing, which I answered very politely, and with respect (the same way I enjoy getting answers to my questions). I helped them to catch bait, showed them how to use the sabiki, let them use my shrimp to tip it. I could see they really had very little clue about fishing.
The next thing the guy says to me, he's planning on going shark-fishing later on in the day.
I say "WOW!! That's cool. I've never been shark fishing before". And thinking "HUH? What does he know about fishing? And shark fishing?"
And he tells me, "Oh, I've never been shark fishing either, but it looks real easy on You-Tube!"
I almost fell over laughing at that point, but managed to keep a straight face. I said, "Yup, it's real easy. The difficult part is the fishing for them, actually catching them, and bringing them in. The rest is easy."

Rob good to hear you are up and about. Sorry I missed you.
I took my dad, my nephew and my youngest son to the pier on Sunday. My dad caught a 13 inch flounder. I had to call Rob to check what the legal size was for flounder since I haven't caught one in a long time. Rob thanks for the info on the flounder. The kids and my dad were catching moonies and jacks. We kept catching big chubs but they are so nasty I almost hate to admit we caught any. I ended up with a nice 18 inch yellow jack. I held it in the water for a while becuase there was another big jack swimming around. My dad threw a shrimp at it but it would not bite. Still a nice day at the pier just really HOT.

Hit the pier up around 3 am and loaded the livewell with some nice pilchards for the morning bite while soaking some snapper baits. Not runs no hits no errors all morning til sunrise. Saw Roofer bring in a huge nurse but other than that nothing. First light got a bait cut in half, got busted off throwing to a school of tarpon, and had a hook break on a fish that was smoking me good on the bottom. I saw a few schools of tarpon , some moonies, good amounts of bait , and that huge T head that cruised the pier for an hour or two.

Re: Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2009 "ONLY REPORTS"
Fished from 6pm-12am off the tee. The water was kind of nasty looking do to canal water current was nice though. I decided to trolly out a bait knowing that bottom fishing would suck in the water. Put out a little 3" pilchard it got nailed and bird nested in the reel(have no idea why that happened). The fish stayed on while it was untangled i felt it pulling then it just stopped. When I reeled it in i had half of a huge cero left(7-8#) with a 50# cuda looking to finish it off I let him chew the rest hoping to hook it up but he let it go and left. After that saw a keeper mutton come up, and had a nice hit myself on a little butterflied grunt. Winds started to howl so I decided to leave before it got worse.

Fished the middle house from 7:00 pm until midnight. Water did look like crap. MiamiNate caught a decent blue. Saw Solid on a small ray, and a few grunts. The guys next to us pulled up a baby hammerhead and then a stormed rolled in about midnight and that ended the night.
