Outside temps might have been 50 but water temps are in the upper 70's and west palm in the 80's. Pensacola its about 65.
that's a great thought. do you have a website that i can look up seawater temperatures...

Fished haulover in the am recently. Lots of ocean wind, and big waves crashing over. It's always funny to see an unsuspecting tourist caught off guard while admiring the "beautiful scenery" Everybody's in full rain gear for a reason lol.

Anyways, the targeted species was pompano and I was off to a rough start. There I was at first light looking for fleas in an area where I've killed them before, but now couldn't find a school to save my life. Only by "blind digging" was I able to catch literally a handful. I don't think I had more than 15 in my bucket. Needless to say, I got a late start to my fishing and with so little bait, I could only use 1 rod with a two-hook rig and 1 sand flea on each hook. The struggle is real! lol. :nopity:

Despite making a couple googan mistakes and bothering some of the "regulars", I managed to land 4 pomps and kept 3 as one was undersized. What started off as a crappy day ended up as a good day  .
(note to self: catch fleas the night before and tie rigs beforehand). Now a few pics:

Fished haulover the past two afternoons. 15-20 east winds, huge waves, huge floating islands of seaweed and cloudy green water. First day, there were pompano caught and a couple bluefish. I didn't have fleas so i fished cut bait. Ended up catching 2 muttons, 1 keeper, 1 short.

Came back the next day and conditions were pretty much the same. Managed to get some small live dines but didn't catch anything with them. just a couple of mystery hits. Seaweed made it really difficult to fish. Didn't really see anyone else catching anything either.

I think someone drowned on the beach. There were a lot of cop cars and some rescue boats out on the beach. I saw an ambulance come but it didn't leave in a hurry. A guy told me they laid out a tarp over the person but it was about 500 yds from the jetty so it was hard to see.

Haulover beach near the south jetty is very treacherous! The rips there are huge and hard to swim out of...i got caught in one many years ago and was able to swim out of it. But i was damn near exhausted. Literally took me an hour to catch my breath and breath normal again.. no joke out there..even seen ppl pushed into the rocks behind from the shear force of waves breaking onto the jetty..and other slipping from the algae... def gotta be careful no matter where you are!

I have slipped on the rocks there and went straight into a hole. Luckily, I went in feet first and was able to get out.

No less than 35 lines in the water this evening and the boat traffic was relentless all day -- all this despite horrible weather. Cant imagine how bad it is on a nice day. Went morning and night, didn't see anyone haul in more than undersized Mangrove snapper and a small cuda.

Saw a nice 20lb permit pulled in a few days ago off crab. Was whipping some out today 50 yards or so and caught only a blowfish. The crabs get picked apart pretty much immediately by all the pins out there.

Can't cast out further than that with the idiot boaters and jet skiers that all come in so close to the jetty.

Worked live mullet freelined through the channel and had one strike from a snook but that was it.

No fishing signs and big tall fences under the bridge so that rules out hitting the structure there at night - have to wrap up by 10pm anyway with no parking after that.

Trash and discarded line all over the place. Really a shame.

I mean.. its probably been 365 days since i posted.. busy working make that cash to feed the family you know..
decided to go out to the jetty in the afternoon.. winds were blowing 20+, trying to throw the jighead with live shrimps.. it was like high speed trolling with the wind..
finally calm down a little near sunset and tide changed, boom goes dynamite.. i will certainly be back soon..
30" snook, couple 14" mangroves, water bottle for sizing lol

Well, i hardly ever do either...i frequent the beach with my spikes..but, permit also have been hit or miss this summer..i got one about 8 lbs and that was it. Ive been fishing the rick for macks and biscayne bay for trout..that has treated me better than those elusive pomps..lol

i was going to give Haulover a shot last night but due to construction made the move to the bay...i havent been out since last year and man is there construction everywhere.

Either way...caught a couple 5lb jacks and jumped some tarpon on the bridges, all on lures and at night. Def gonna give it another shot this week

went again this week in the afternoon, weather was much calmer than couple weeks ago.. but there was literally no wind, water crystal clear, no bites were produced using 30lb fluoro,,, had to scale down to #20 test, with the "biggest" shrimp I have out of the 4 dz I bought from "summer shrimps".. another slot in the book lol.. a crab craw for sizing :auto:
