Well, I had promised I would post this when found. As I was cleaning out the old Florida sportsman magazines that I have from the 80's and early 90's I was able to find this one on the October 1990 issue.

I remember reading that years ago
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

I could swear someone caught a sailfish off halover pier back in the 80's.
God I miss that pier.

Re: Marlin caught at Newport Pier
Las summer I saw a group or 4 sailfish 2/3 of the way out at Dania pier. They were under 3 feet long, moving really fast around a lot of bait. It was one of those freaky crystal clear water days where people were catching monster runners and lots of AJs, rainbow runners, macs, bonito and stuff. Could see really clearly to the bottom and there were cudas, angelfish and spadefish swimming around too. Y'all have probably seen one or two of those rare days like I describe if you go out a lot. And the bait was plentiful and varied that day too. I remember real big thread herring and ballyhoo swimming around that day. Couldn't believe my eyes but definitely saw them!
