Jigging in Miami "Last Trip of 2011"

Post by cudaman »

THE FISHING TRIP: DECEMBER 17TH, 2011
Aboard the “REWARD WON” with Captain Wayne

The Spot : Offshore Miami and Biscayne, Florida

weather : cloudy, no wind

Seas: Flat Calm!

Water: Clear all day

Fish catches : Amberjack, ALmaco Jacks, Groupers, small Blackfin Tuna, with bonitos in the mix

Biggest size : Type : Almacojacks around 15 to 20 lbs, Red Grouper around 10lbs, small scamp and snowy

Technique : Jigging

Jigs :100-300 gram, Hammered Diamond jigs. red/white, blue, silver, pink, green, and glow worked the most.

I got to the docks a little late as the boat engine was on I though "Oh NOOOOOOO, they are leaving without me!" But they were just warming up the boat. The trip starded slowly as we were in the shallower water, the fish were not there but the captain as always found the fish but in over 300 feet of water. We saw some beginners today turn good jiggers and birthday boy Peter's first offshore catch was priceless. And now, the rest of the story:

Most others are on video action of jigging and lading their fish(Pat, Adam, Jamal, etc), so a nice little video to come 8)

That was Troy, the one in the picture with the scamp grouper and on the video he got an almaco. He says it's a good reel so far. On this trip he was using up to 300 grams jigs no problems and he has used it is other trips as well. Hey Juan where you get this reel for $118? Send me link, might get one just for popping, looks like it will hold up for it.

Ok guys the video is up. Youtube cut off the sound and their free music sucks, so I'm so sorry for that! :? I will have to find another source to upload videos. Too much trouble with Youtube. If anyone that went on the trip wants the original video with sound I don't mind giving it to you.

Thanks Ron, yeah I saw it and saw it at tackledirect.com as well for the same prices. Nice looking reels to not blow up the wallet. But I did buy a Spheros 10000FB for same price. Just need to mod the handle.

Sorry I took so long to post.. super busy (and sore)
Well, what can I say, this was one of the best times with some of the best people around. I can't thank you all enough for how awesome you all treated Peter and I!!! Oh.. and just a little extra thank you to Herb for letting my son use your accurate.. now he wants one... thanks again!

Either way.. here are some photos of the trip I was able to take, I would love to have taken more but I was busy trying to help the little guy get on as many fish as possible!

Here is Peter at 5:40am in the boat ready to go... does anyone remember someone say "be there at 5:40 slackers!!" ???? hahahahahaha
jigging-3.jpg
Here is Adam, I swore I overheard him tell Sehoon "no, really man, we have to tie 900g jigs on.. I'll show you how"
jigging-11.jpg
They say trouble comes in pairs.... well....
jigging-12.jpg
It actually comes in 3's
jigging-15.jpg
I overheard Adam once again saying "Look Sehoon, if you add a treble hook to the bottom you can foul hook porgies all day" hahahahaha (just kidding man!)
jigging-16.jpg
Here is Sehoon replying "does it work for Wahoos as well"? hahaha
jigging-17.jpg
This is what we were riding into.. gorgeous huh? .. ... (cue Berlin "take my breath away")
jigging-18.jpg
jigging-24.jpg
My little guy with his first offshore fish.. a little BFT!!! Thanks again Chris for the Setup, Peter kept telling me that he had to take the photo with the rod and reel in the pic, because you told him to! lol
jigging-35.jpg
Mike let Peter fight this big red group halfway up, and hold it for a photo.. what a class act!! thanks again Mike!
jigging-40.jpg
will attach more next post!

Part II

More Catching!

Sehoon's Biggin!!
jigging-42.jpg
These guys were either drunk, or tired... or both.. hahahaha
jigging-44.jpg
Peter, who just learned how to use a conventional (thanks Pat!) was a trolling master by the end of the trip, but it was fun to mess with him by telling him there was a fish on the line and watching him jump for it!!! (I'm so going to hell for stuff like that)
jigging-45.jpg
Father and son!
jigging-49.jpg
I just want to finish by saying that you ALL made my son's first offshore special and gave him an 11th birthday that he'll never forget. I really loved how much we all bonded and had a great time together like we knew each other for years... it was amazing! and Captain Wayne staying out longer and Chris the assistant capt (mate) was incredible for all of us!!
Funny point about jigging I have to make though... Jigging is probably the only time when I am fishing that when I start moving the lure, I actually hope I do not get any hits until about midway up.. something about catching a fish at 450ft just scares me... anyone else with me? especially one of those friggin jacks... sheesh... no thank you! lol

Thanks again guys!!!

Charles
