Fort Myers Beach

I will be coming down the week of Feb 20th. I spend most of my time fishing for bass but would like to try the salt water. Would it be possible to catch anything fishing off the beach in the vacinity of the Sandpiper? I like to cast and use artificials mostly. What lure should I be using? Could fishing there be productive or is it a waste of time? Thanks for your help,

Not my area, but with the fish kill we've had due to the cold weather a couple weeks ago your chances of hooking up on the beaches have been seriously diminished. Hopefully some one else will chime in.

I have used bass lures and caught some macks and cuda. I would take what ever lures are the lest valuable to you and give those a shot. Nothing beats cut bait or live bait for that matter. Use some strong/light line so you can cast further out. Use jig heads with some grubs or tubes on em if you have them. Gotcha brand artificial baits work well. If you have the ability to hit a pier i would suggest it .... along with a rock jetty near a inlet if you can find one. I would also suggest some live or fresh shrimp too if you want more hits.

Get familiar with the regulations and a fish ID book and dont forget a license. The last thing you want to do is catch a fish and want to keep it when it is out of season or undersize. Best of luck to ya.

tr i have a cousin over in elk grove, anyway i toss either gold spoons or bounce gulp shrimp off the bottom those r best for me over there
