Got one last haul of yellow jacks last week. Water was so clear but full of weeds. They probably flushed through for a third of the tide it was the surface kind. Way too many boats out there.
Thanks to whoever left the 10x10 canopy. Even though the frame was already bent up it worked well until the first storm.
The cubera snapper is easily confused with the gray snapper (Lutjanus griseus). However, these two species can be distinguished from each other by the shape of the vomerine tooth patch at the top of the palate. The gray snapper has an anchor-shaped tooth patch while the cubera has a triangular-shaped patch.
It is on the inside roof of the mouth. Only realible way to tell the difference. Those are both nice snapper regardless of species.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.
Yes see that's why I'm confused because those spearfishing sites are saying the opposite of what you guys are saying and the head of my fish and the eyes and everything in the snout that's the one with the triangle in all the other characteristics are screaming cubera. And I know 100% I've got one of each I'm just trying to figure out if that spearfishing paid was wrong and I really think it is and you guys are both back in that up now. According to Fishman Joe they're both mangroves
If I had to pick one from your pic of a cubera.... I will say its the one on the right. but theyre looking greyish to me...Either way, bro! Stud meaty fish!
Since nobody seems to be on here anymore. I am posting here and maybe a few folks will see it.
I'm towing the jetski down from STL Nov 23-30. Planning on fishing constantly from it and its all rigged up for it. If any of you want to get out on the water hit me up. I only have room for me but I'm sure some of you have boats too. Will post a good report here when the vaca is over.
No sounder on it yet but that might come later on. Its a basic rig. I only plan on fishing with it when I visit down south so I did it the easiest way without spending thousands extra for the electronics and true cooler rack. Should work out great. The engel cooler is now rigged with the water spout for a true livewell.
