Trip to Channel 2, Pictures included!

I decided I was gonna head down friday night, weather or not. So I did, I went to Pirates Cove bait store, and got 8 live pinfish and 6 dozen live shrimp, then hit the road. I get to channel 2, and toss a live pinfish (smaller one) behind a piling out of the current, set my rod and and rigged up my other rod. While fishing and catching small grovers and yellowtails, I hear a quick ZZZZ on my torium...I didn't think much about it, cause there was alot of seaweed. Well about 30 seconds later it screams, I run over grab it...and the fight is on. I get it up and down and realize it's a NICE snapper...and flipped it...its a 22" mangrove snapper :reeling: :reeling:

Image

Then I lost something BIG when I tried to get a good look at it, it ate a good size pinfish, behind the piling, I think it was a LARGE grouper, cause I heard it flopping around and tail slapping. Then I caught a 23" black grouper on a large pinfish. Then the bite DIED...here are 2 pore pictures of the Mangrove, my biggest to date!

The pictures were taken at Catch My drifts dock....they cleaned it for me, I wanted to know if it was a Grover or Cubbera. Not to mention I didn't want to make a mess in my kitchen :P

I think that fish was taken off a boat, a party boat of some kind, its not fair that
you display that fish on this web site because it was not boatless fishing. nice fish none the less.

Surf rat...your ignorance is amazing...you obviously have never fished the keys, that statement proves it.

I know where there are some grovers that are GIGANTIC...and nobody can get to them without a boat or knowing who lives in the house, so you can fish off their dock. even then with a boat, you'd be hard pressed to find it, muchless get to them. I'm gonna take a buddy of mine down there soon, and let him hookup with one of these grovers...maybe I'll snap a picture. Or not...it's most likely a boat fish, according to surf rat...lmao....what a idiot...

Those big dock snapper in the Keys are about as smart as they come. They didn't get to be that big by being stupid. You can throw unhooked bait all day long and they will eat it right up, but it seems every time you put a hook, no matter how small and how light your flourocarbon is, they won't touch it.

I have fished the keys 2-3 times a month for about 7 years. There are definitely plenty of mangroves that size and bigger down there, maybe not as many from Channel 2 b/c it gets hit so hard but they are definitely there.
