awesome day! caught this, personal best 16":
also caught a couple of trash fish 22-24"(redfish) ; I kept 1 and returned the other;
only caught 1 other keeper mango; here's the money shot:
I started out just going to take Nate out and go to work about 7, but got pretty excited and decided to take the whole day off...It was raining in Loxley anyway, so a good day to take off: Jenni and the kids were off for fall break...here's Katie with a short mango:
when they got there, I pretty much tended to there baiting needs.
Several nice kings caught, here's Tom with a good one:

Just curious, why would anyone refer to a Red as a Trash Fish.

Nice catch. That pier looks nice too. Those king macs seem to be all over right now.

They interrupt his snapper fishing those redfish do. COTTON had an obsession with the mangroves and tears them up.Filletnrelease wrote:Just curious, why would anyone refer to a Red as a Trash Fish.
Great report COTTON and good job on your personal best.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Re: Tuesday the 13th October
just kidding of course no such thing as a trash fish really, one man's trash is anothers treasure...I turn all the bigger reds loose (don't like cleaning them); ff is right though, I am obsessed, so when I caught that big mango, of course I was in a hurry to catch another while the bite was on (they don't seem to last long); then the next three fish were one bluefish and the two reds before I had to switch tactics to humor "the pier police".Just curious, why would anyone refer to a Red as a Trash Fish.
Phanatic, that's a good question on the bait; I call them threadfins (they're not), but I talked to Pier#r and he believes they're really a gizzard shad. It's a slimy fish, hard to keep alive, soft and won't stay on a hook well; but its similar in shape to a scaled sardine. Anyway, that's what it hit. It was still dark so I couldn't see; thought it was a bluefish till it came over the rail. Was really pumped when I saw what it was. Several guys who have fished there for years said it was the biggest they had ever seen on the pier.

Indeed it was a fine specimen cotton
The baitfish we use are either Gizzard shad (most likely) or Threadfin shad (less likely).

http://www.outdooralabama.com/fishing/f ... threadfin/
They make good live baits, but are difficult to keep alive.

That kind of interruption I could handle. Great report Cotton, as usual.fishnfool73 wrote:They interrupt his snapper fishing those redfish do. COTTON had an obsession with the mangroves and tears them up.Filletnrelease wrote:Just curious, why would anyone refer to a Red as a Trash Fish.

Nice report.
The Judge asked the prostitute, "At what point did you realize you were raped?"
The prostitute replied (wiping away tears), "When the check bounced."
