First Wahoo!
Went out on Sea legs for the afternoon trip yesterday for my third attempt at vertical jigging and caught my very first wahoo (and personal largest catch)! Weighed in at 7.91 kg. according to FWC, which was at the dock doing some survey and collecting ear stones from the catches.
Previously my catches vertical jigging were an undersized trigger (with aspirations for glory given the size of the 180g jig) and a lizardfish.

Nice wahoo
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Nice...
it has been a while on a party boat... But isn't Sea Leg used to be a yellowtail anchor party boat out of Dania A1A ? Do they have VJ trip too?
Maybe, day time VJ and night time tails?

Re: First Wahoo!
Thanks, guys!
kblue: They anchor at night and chum for YT. The day trips are drift trips. Most people are just soaking squid chunks on chicken rigs, but a few guys bring their own stuff and use other methods, including one or two jigging.
I bring two poles so I can rest. Didn't catch anything but a squirrelfish on the second one, despite soaking ballyhoo and sardines whole on a fishfinder/long leader. The mate and one other guy were killing it on kingfish rigs with colorful skirts, pulling up nonstop mutton.
So, when's the next BF jigging trip?

Sounds like you've been doing some VJ on drifting.
What weight of jig and what depth?

Re: First Wahoo!
Jigs are a set of six 170g jigs (not 180g as I misstated in the OP) I got on ebay relatively inexpensively. I suppose I probably need to get more in varying weights eventually, but just got enough to start for now.
Depth, varies. Typically 130 to a little over 200 feet, I think. The captain drives without my input, frequently moves, and doesn't always announce the depth. That's why I shot for the middle in terms of jig weight, per the 1g/ft suggestion.

Latter on I will post some options. I wanted to do one in October but just haven't had the time. Work has slowed down so I can now start fishing again.MrEnigma wrote: So, when's the next BF jigging trip?
Looks like December or January.

The sooner the better for me. My son will be born in late December, so I will be fishing in a carwash bucket just to scratch the itch for the foreseeable future starting right about that time.
