I'm Glad you found your way here Yak Attack - The folks are great and very helpful. Let's both of us ( with some help)
see if we could expand the Yak Section a little bit.
I look forward to taking some more of those professional shots this summer and also reciprocating as well.
Man, that was a really, really nice day at Pomp Pier and also Lake Worth when we went together huh ?
I am tryin to get Tom ( boatless Fisherman) into a yak soon.
Dunno - He just bought a new 9/0 so maybe the yak to drop sharkbaits is soon to come.

Hi all,
I live in Gainesville and have been fishing the St. Augustine area in my friend's canoe for about 5 mos. We have had some really good days with 15 redfish and 5 flounder being the best.
Below is a pic taken with a cell phone camera of a 26.75 in. red I caught in December.
It was caught on a jumbo dead shrimp on 6 lb. test, 10 lb. fluoro leader, couple of small split shots, and a 2/0 circle hook.

Nice fish. I'm investing in a yak. I'm hoping to pick one up this year. Do you know any good places with good deals to buy one?

Speckled sea trout & bull shark

First, I caught this 23" speckled sea trout, using a cajun popping cork followed by a 4" white Gulp! shrimp:
Then, while I was putting the trout on a stringer, this guy (5' bull shark) grabbed my ladyfish head - on a circle hook, 30 lb Power Pro braid with 3' of single strand 40 lb. wire on my Penn 650 reel:
I caught them fishing from one of my 2 nearly identical sea kayaks - 17 1/2' long x 22" wide:
Your can see the "rocket launcher" on the rear deck - here's how I rig the rod holders on the front deck:
Click on the link below for the video. Tight lines!

Hey, Swordfish -
It was a lot of fun - especially the sleigh ride. He was pretty tuckered out when I pulled him onto the deck for the picture, but came back to life when he went back in the water - it didn't take long.
If he was any bigger than 5', you can bet I wouldn't have done anything like that. They gain a LOT of weight, growing from 5' to 6' and up.
I've been kayaking in skinny sea kayaks for over 15 years, so tipping isn't much of a problem, especially in flat water like Pine Island Sound, where I caught this bull. Kayak fishing is a relatively new thing for me. I like the speed and long-distance capability of my sea kayak. I can't stand in it to fish, but then again, I don't fly fish either. It works for me!

Great job on those fish, but that is a lemon shark, not a bull.

That's right. That fact was pointed out to me, and that's why I changed the You Tube title several months ago. It is now re- titled:
"Shark in a Kayak - Catching a 5-foot Lemon Shark".

this pic is from 2007 ( recently scanned it), and sadly this is the biggest tarpon i have caught and brought to the boat from my canoe. Not my biggest though, I did catch a 25-30 lb'er from JF creek bridge last year. Anyways, this was at the mouth of Cuthbert Lake in the everglades. it was just a baby

Hi Woodkayaker,
to tell you the truth this was my first big fish out of a kayak so I was a bit scared to tighten the drag and let him give me a sleigh ride

. When he started running like crazy I was looking at my spool in horror as I was about to be spooled out. So I pointed my Hobie kayak in the direction of the run and I peddled like crazy while gaining line. I’m so happy I could do that on this kayak. However, next time something big hits I’ll probably tighten the drag and go for a ride. I saw your lemon shark video. Awsome!
