Re: my first cobia.!!!
Even though i shot it in the head it was pulling me around for a minute or two, every time i tried to pull it closer to me it would just take off, i was afraid it would pull off but after i got a closer look where i shot it i saw that the shaft was never going to come off so i just grabbed the mono and started pulling it hard... after i got my hands on the gills it was pretty much over.. it was really exciting shooting a fish this big, its not every day i get to do it... i headed out just south off commercial this morning with a friend of mine, we ended up shootn two hogs and caught a large bug..sorry no pics, really good sashimi though..outofair wrote:Nice cobe. Great job on the Cobe.
The Judge asked the prostitute, "At what point did you realize you were raped?"
The prostitute replied (wiping away tears), "When the check bounced."

Nice fish . Always exciting your first time.
I've personally never spearfished before, do you guys scuba or snorkel?
Another really dumb question (but thats cos i'm dumb ), how do you know that the fish are within the legal size limits? Or do you only spear those fish you can clearly see are big enough? Because I'm quite sure the fish aren't going to oblige you by waiting around to measure them.

It is a far better thing to have caught and lost, than to have never caught at all.

Re: my first cobia.!!!
lol... we only go free diving, depth obiously depends on where we are but after a few dives you will get used to tell the size of a fish underwater (regretably some small fish die in the process) we try go for the bigger fish though..i dont remember how long it took me to figure out the size thing, but i can tell you that now it shooting a undersized fish is pretty rare...

Very cool. If you're ever interested in training a rookie, just let me know ( I even know how to swim ).

Wow I am envious to the Max. That's a good 35lb fish and some of the best eating on either coast. Congrats man.

Nope...she was only 21lbs. Erhm.Eli knows all too much about undersized fish. But hes got it down now. As for myself. i try to only shoot fish that are obviously of legal size..but of course there are always times that you get a little trigger hapy ,but that doesnt happen all to often.

Re: my first cobia.!!!
What are u talkn about dude, now ur just running ur mouth. ... i used to shoot alot of smaller snapper (10-11in mangroves) but they were undersized in scarce occations. i know it happened a few times (shooting undersized fish) it takes some time to get used to, but i bet u couldnt remember the last time i shot a fish that was short...btw we should get a real scale instead of guessing or using those computer "weight calculators", i dont trust them...

YA, but id say it was pretty accurate.. You and Tim said 20lbs and thte computer said 21...? so i think its pretty dam accurate...And i know a hog that would say otherwise ...but ya its been a while since. And when you come over by me..hopefully on Friday, Theres tons of 10-12in mangroves that you are more than welcome to shoot.
