Side note, called pier at 7:00 and asked what type of bait they had and they said "live bait" and when we got there, nothing but frozen.... Looking for other places..
Next time, try using that squid on a sabiki rig to catch some grunts or other small baitfish and use those for bait.

Yeah what Rory said. You can pull grunts off the reef pretty consistently.

Didn't think that grunts made good bait. Besides sharks or rays, what will hit them?

Thank you for the advice gentlemen. I haven't fished since I was a kid and I am still trying to get my bearings (and a few good spots to fish).

Spearfished this morning from 9am to about noon. Friend of mine saw a 3 foot grouper and some small jacks.

I saw an 8 feet long nurse shark and some small snappers.

Besides that all I caught was a lion fish.

Not a Goliath? A 3-foot grouper = 36 inches, easily over 30lbs. Would have been a nice kill if it was a black or gag, and if it was May...

If you ever shoot one that size, expect to get pulled around, unless ofcourse you get lucky and stone it.

anglins pier 4-20-11

Post by orlando1988 »

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot in the forum.

went to anglins pier on 4-20-11 at 5-720pm.
lots of bait fish(not sure what kind but the destroy my shrimp before it hits the bottom) some guy said he saw a nurse shark. and another fellow caught a mullet.
lots of cuda, i switched to my hogy lure and had some decent size cuda try and snatch it ... sadly the missed the hook and destroyed on lure in the process. nothing spectacular but it wasnt dead either for the time of day.

A few Pompano in the Mornings, Jacks in and out, Mullet passing everyday, Barracudas and Yellowtails on clear and flat days.

8) Obviously ,the stealth Swordies and a few beginner Yellowfins have begun. Otherwise this thread wouldn't be so hidden and secretive.

pompano must be moving out soon and on the way northward. if the the ballyhoo are coming back maybe that might bring a frenzy of macks or jacks off this pier.

ok I have been fishing anglins the past couple months or so. the last couple weeks have been fairly quiet while i have been there. as for my catches. hooked up with a couple tarpons. some blues, margates, my gf has pulled up some small grovers and margates that were sizable as well, saw one dude hook up a big hog a couple weeks ago but it broke off. been using grunts live and cut for bait and also bluefish. some hits on grunts here and there. my girl caught a nice mutton the last time out(monday). he was about 11 inches or so. big enugh to eat but not legal. he swalled the hook completely i tried to save him but was unable. threw him back and saw him flaoting off a few minutes later. what a waste of a god fish. however, couldnt keep it cause i would get fined and its legal. why is there not a technicality in the law if the fish was going to die anyway then you may keep it,like the hook being visibly too deep to save the poor thing til eh is big enugh for size. I think it sucks we threw it back and it went to waste over fines and such. I dunno unless there is soemthing i dont know in the laws about that.
I have heard of some pomps coming up here and there mornign and midafternoon but not many....couple cudas here and there as well, and saw a decent ray come over the rail...that is about it for up to date reports. i have been fishing night shift, say 5pm or so til midnight or 1 am...oh yeah some threadfins at night in the lights for bait....last time out. i also saw some mullet in small groups coming in and out of the light.. I am thinkin of going up to deerfield try my luck out there its been months sincei fished dfp.

right on i did that after a 3 mins cut it as short as possible however floated away. made em sad i hate things to die for no reason. not my style of fishing. i kill what i need for bait and keep what im going to eat. i dont believe in senseless killing of any fish

Thanks for the info this morning Tommy. Had no luck with the yellowtail though. There were a lot of cudas everywhere and houndfish. I had three hookups this morning. A small cuda, a houndfish, and a short grouper. All caught on live pilchards. All went swimming back. Not my greatest day out, but it being the first time I get out and wet a line in 2 months, I'll take it. I've been away for too long. I might go back tomorrow morning.

just imagine if the law allowed people to keep undersize fish that died from a swallowed hook. that means.............. "everyone's keeping". no we cant have a law like this in the states. it will open up too many excuses for keeping illegal fish.

Haven't fished in a while but was finally able to make it out this saturday. Took my favorite fishing buddy (my 5 yr old son) and hit the pier by 9AM. Saw a few nice snook under the pier near the shore but they wouldn't even look at my live shrimp. The baracudas were finicky too. Headed out past the middle hut. Not much to talk about but the jacks kept us busy all day. Caught from 25 to 30 jacks. They ranged from 10 inches to 18 inches. My son had a great time because jacks are great fighters. He is getting so good that he was able to hold his fish in the water and let me cast out and catch one of the followers. We had quite a number of double hookups this way. We were catching so many we let a couple of the kids next to us wind up a few. Felt sorry for the kids because they were only catching small fish. This gave a nice thrill for them to catch something that gave a nice pull. Lookdown/moonfish were plentiful but only caught a few. They would come out to look at the shrimp but just hit it and swim away. Then the jacks would strike. Also wasted a lot of bait on those pesky needlefish and filefish.
