I fished with frozen fles for 2 hours and not a nibble. I did see a big school of blues surfing the waves but they ignore me. I hear they are catching pomps in Stuart on the beach.

Monday evening - 1 down 49 to go. Used dead fleas for 2.5 hrs - caught one pomp 15" and one blue runner. saw only a few others caught - maybe 3-4 and there were 20+ rods out.

Fished Jupiter Island with Ricky and Rob today, only a handful of pompano around, we all filled coolers with whiting and croakers from the first trough though. Also got a surprise sheepshead. Here is my cooler, theirs was fuller.

I drove by Juno beach today, NEVER seen it that packed, ever. Made my way to Jupiter Island, then gave up and went to the Blue Heron bridge. Report on that in another thread, but the Mac's were everywhere

So Croakers are decent eating? I've had it out with my mom for trying to keep those and she's cooked them up before, I wasn't a big fan but every fish has a way of being cooked properly. I've tried Jack Crevalle served to me like steak grilled on the coals and it was really good, tasted like Tuna. But I never keep those. Am I missing something here?

Yes, they are fine, mild white flaky meat. Just have to catch enough of them to make it worthwhile. Better yet, use them for bait to catch a snook.

I was at the Blue Heron Bridge Sunday... IT WAS TOOO PACKED. FWC was there and that helped clear out some of the crowd

First slot this season!

Post by gatorjwade »

Ran up to Singer Island this morning and got this 28 1/4" snook at sunrise!
A lot more action up there than Boca... there were packs of BIG jacks roaming with their dorsals out of the water... saw a 3 1/2'-er jump a full 3' out of the water just 30' off the beach chasing bait! Also pretty sure I saw a 15" bluefish jump out there.
It was nice to catch a decent fish... it's been awhile... :-)

Nice snook Jeff ! Haven't seen ya in awhile, been only fishing my home areas been too lazy to drive anywhere. Jacks up there sound interesting, haven't seen any around here. Not complaining about catching snook and tarpon, more work than normal on artificial but they can be had. Very few other species except runners, I don't fish for them.

Hi All,
Fished Juno Beach this morning and caught this 20 inch Snook about 7:25 AM. I didn't want to take a chance of it not swimming away so I just took the picture when it came off my lure and put it back in. As you can see it was caught on a red 1/4 oz jighead with a white paddle tail triggerX. I had a few tails bitten off so I think we're gettting the beginning of the blues showing up. I didn't see any others caught but I left about 9 AM just before low tide.

Manny

1 of 8 Blue Fish caught on a Rapala XR10 this morning on Juno Beach 7:40 AM to 9:15 AM. No Snook in the surf. All the Blue Fish went back in. I was fishing next to guy fishing with a very similar lure and one of the Blue Fish he was bringing in got chased by a shark but he got it in without loosing his lure. Just then a guy about 50 feet down the beach swimming a Blue Fish trying for a shark got hit by what we think may have been the same shark but it got off.
So no snook but plenty of Blue Fish, some pods of mullet, and some sharks on Juno Beach this morning.

Been a quiet week for snook in the surf this week. Bluefish were on fire this morning probably caught somewhere around 15, literally a fish a cast, lost a gotcha and jigging spoon. Those cocktail blues are a lot fun, but sure ain't no jack crevalle.
