Seemed Very Fishy but to no avail. Looked last night for the weather, said to be North 10-15 knots with seas 3-5 feet, but that was an illusion. Flat as a pancake and COLD. All the bait you wanted was there. Gogs, Hoos, Cigs, and Dines were all in good numbers and caught well in the morning. Got a hit on the bottom that happened to be a bonita. Spit the hook straight up and down. This was at 8:30am or so. :nilly:

Nothing else for the rest of the day until about 12:00pm when a decent Spanish mack came over.

:toast:
Nice Report, Ben. Hit the nail on the head.

Also, thanks for the lending the pliers and 3 oz. egg.

See you all this week,

John

A few photo's from Deerfield in January......

Logan's nice King.... you would think from that smile it was a Lizard fish

A future Snook master.... His first big fish.... hope he is hooked for life.... Coaching by Smoking's Toy.... John who gave up a bit of a days fishing to help this guy catch bait and rig up for this prize.... Snook was of course released to grow.

Last shot is one of the old fart with a small Bony caught on a sidewinder and 4lb. test.
Sure would like to have one like this when I have my heavy Cobia rod out there for a swim bait.

Image

Last few trips have been kinda poor with only a small amount of Macks, Bony's and Kings even smaller than the Macks.... come on Spring.

It is not a 270. It is to large. It's either a 870 or 665.

So...just went out yesterday to hang with Marco and Zack for a bit and all was dead.
The wind has been unfavorable and it seems as though the once great bait situation may have left us for a bit.

I believe we stomped a small mack and about 100 + hoodaddies in the chum bag just to get a small school of other hoodaddies in...very weak.

Hopefully this North wind will pick up!! If so, look for a report to follow...

I caught a lizardfish and freed a frigate today.

<--------starting to think that Zebco may be onto something with the " no trebbles as stingers " idea....DAMN hard to get out of an angry bird gullett....

Single hooks would work just as good.

[quote="Cookinman"]I caught a lizardfish and freed a frigate today.

<--------starting to think that Zebco may be onto something with the " no trebbles as stingers " idea....DAMN hard to get out of an angry bird gullett....

Throw an artificial and the same's gonna happen. Period.
Free line a single-hook and the birds are around, snagged...donezo.

Agreed that it's difficult to cut it out of a bird...but I will always defend the fact that if you can't have the patience to try and try again, then you should fish bottom....with whatever rig you choose (unless you're pro crab/triggerfish rights).

I honestly think the problem is that baits are so scarce, folks are afraid of killing their only bait by retrieving and starting all over again. Nine times out of ten, if a bird has smacked your bait, you have the opportunity to try all over again. Most though, just keep shaking the rod in hopes that the miraculous will prevail. I swear to god unless you've got a runner, your bait isn't going to take off and go down...maybe throw a storm trolley/sliding rig with a 1/2 oz. egg on the leader.

Sucks, but the impossible is the only solution and that is:

NO BIRDS AT ALL...can't imagine sending them on vacation to somewhere else, though.....they'll thin out when we get some consistent heat

Sucks, cookin', I know...but I think that a moderator should stand up and squash the treble-talk on BF and keep those convos for piers...maybe leave it all as an "agree to disagree" situation.

8) Why do you care? That isn't a Deerfield rule. It's a pier rule at Dania. It's easily an acceptable topic. And if you do not approve, then don't go there.
Plain and simple.
I tried to squash it and then here comes Zeb. Don't remember anyone going "Ohh man, can't squash this topic without first knowing what Zeb thinks...Zeb, please grace us with your infinite wisdom"

In addition, I was being as respectful as I could...but added my opinion just as cookin' did. In REPORTS...as it shouldn't have been in the first place.

You're making things difficult on this forum bro, just to go against the grain. Don't be mad you look like Tony Little trying to sling exercise equipment on PBS at 3 a.m.

This topic is DONE.

Just like I tried to do before you marched in here with your poneytail and 33 cents to throw in.

DONE.
Peace

I helped try to get a treb out of a gullet the other day - If it was a single hook, yes he still would have been hooked, but it would have been easier to cut the hook and slip out the remaining pieces W less trauma to the critter....Youll hook just as many but kill far less.

Never had a bird hit a swimming gotcha before....
just MHO

....but yea, this area is for reports, agreed.

Very true statement

Never had a bird hit a swimming gotcha before.... I have and had the whole lure gutted
just MHO

Just dropped my wife off at work...she works at the Pier Grill attached to DFP and the water was flat...wind was cold.
I'm sure the tourists will have a nice day :thumright:

If I go back out this morning or afternoon, I'll drop a report by later.

PS--Just wanted throw a wenis faced elephant and condom head smiley on here for general purposes...lighten the mood. :safe: :safe: :safe: :safe: :safe: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant: :elephant:

that is all.

I've been away from the pier most of the Winter, but prior was out a couple 3-4 times a week.

Should be any day now things start to liven up!

Trollies (well, sliding rigs...actually) on sturdy sticks with lake and stream 6-8 lb. spinning reels..(later in the day, from what I saw). Using 2-3 oz. banks and egg weights.

WOWZA!!!!!

plenty of bait if you need some for a trip elsewhere, though.

What type of bait? Hoos only? Any Gogs?

Just hoos and some sand perch. Over the last week, some cigs and dines have been through later in the afternoon when the tides rolling back in. That's it. All the hoos you could ever necessitate.

was there yday from 8 till about 1. i got one slotish snook on a hoo. derek got a short cobe up and down then it broke his treb off. 20 minutes later we see a ray with a cobe on it, jamison throws his jig and accidentally snags it under the pec fin. get it up and it had dereks treb in its mouth. also logan caught like a legit 200-250lb ray on 25 mono on an accurate 270. that was it while i was there

HAHAHA..

Hard to believe Jamison "accidentally" snagged anything. I now it was a bad day if he "accidentally" snagged a ray. Now, all of the younger kids (Josh, Isaac and others) are trying to "accidentally" snag rays.

You guys "accidentally" became a bad influence.

hahaha.

What time were you there, Zack? I came out after a short workday around 11:30 to about 1:00 and didn't see anything but Derek almost get mobbed by the Latin Mafia.
