Re: tarpon fishing
nice job. what kind of hooks are you using cause you should never have even close to that many straightened hooks in one night.

Re: tarpon fishing
Honestly, I have read every one say that it's illegal to do so, but on the FWC page said it was illegal to take a tarpon out of the water without a tag inserted in it's mouth, unless it was being released back into the water that it was just caught from.
One is not to sit there for long lengthy photo shoots with said tarpon, but a picture can be taken during the act of dehooking.
So, in other words, take a picture with the hook still in the fish's mouth?
Anyway, many threads on many forums about this same exact thing.
And it's not going to stop anytime soon.
Some people interpret the literature differently.
Nice fish nonetheless!
I'm still itchin' to get my first salty side tarpon.
I was out last night with a buddy on his boat and we only were able to pull up on nice meety grover at around 16 inches

Like you said, technically the only pictures of a tarpon out of the water can be taken as you are in the act of unhooking it. In the FWC's eyes, posing with a tarpon construes possession, since it was not immediately released. We had a very lengthy discussion of this last year, and I posed the question to FWC and that was the answer they gave. I'll try and find the thread.

It is also the state fish.

calmwater wrote:i dont get it cause in boca grande during the tournament, they lift the tarpons out of the water to weight them
They put a tag in them in order to weigh them which is like $50.00.
Also, kinda absurd to use a 50 year old fish as shark bait imo...
If a shark decides to eat a tarpon because he caught it is simply nature taking its course. Now humans killing a 100lb tarpon for shark bait is just absurd imo...
That's why regulations are so necessary, if it wasn't for them being totally protected tarpon would probably be in history books in florida.

No worries offshore Ryan was joking about using them as sharkbait.
