The Flying Lure.
The Judge asked the prostitute, "At what point did you realize you were raped?"
The prostitute replied (wiping away tears), "When the check bounced."

A small popper lure will work for nice peacock and bass. Just work it as quick as you can while popping it.

I've started using wacky rigged senko worms in the last few years and have caught a lot of bass on them. You can't fish them slow enough.

No magic lure..........lately my best production has been using a weightless fluke, fishing it just under the surface or skimming it on top with a walk the dog motion. Gold spoons seem to always do well for me too.

Swimbait, slow and steady. LMB's are relatively stupid no matter what body of water you're fishing.

Texas rigged 10" Tequila Sunrise colored curl tailed worm fished on the bottom with a 1/8th oz bullet sinker or none at all. Bounce it on the bottom or work it on top like a topwater lure. Its always been my go to. I have a 20 pound bag full of every kind of worm on the shelf from the store. :toast:

Amen. LMB's are what I target when people bug the hell out of me to take them fishing. I don't have alot of respect for them, and none at all for tournament anglers.

Local... you have a good point... Only question to you is... How is it that the same top 5 guys (i.e. Vandam, Cook, Brauer, etc) win OVER and OVER again at locations nationwide? How is it that the same "dudes" win the tournys out in the Glades (Sawgrass, Lox, Holiday) over and over again? If these largemouth are that "stupid", how is that the same guys are able to pull in a 5 fish stringer of 25lbs as opposed to the competition that pulls in a 5 fish stringer of 10lbs???? Just curious

Reminds me of a day fishing up in New Jersey years back... Assunpink Lake, a group of us went out, all rented boats, ended up with 12 guys, 6 boats. Lots of smack talk weeks before, etc etc. Conditions the day of were less then desirable... End of April, day after a cold snap, blue bird, windy, water temps I think in the lower 50's. Our "weigh in" was at 3pm... 12 guys, 8 fish (keepers, had to be over 12" to count) were caught... Boat I was on, we had 6 of the eight. All our fish were caught on deep diving crankbaits in about 2 foot of water in the afternoon once the sun heated up a rip rap.. ALL the hits came as the lure was deflecting off rocks. A true reaction bite. Had boats around us watching us catch a few fish, and they got nothing, throwing worms, spinnerbaits, etc etc.

Was this a "fluke"? Or was it about "patterning" a fish that is very sensitive to changes?

No doubt it is about pattering to get the big numbers, but i do not believe that they are a smart fish. Once you lock in to what they are eating, youre good to go. It is also diffrent in a lake on a boat where you have to find the fish, compared to fishing a bank where your options are limited. I think that if some of the bassmasters just fished a bank or were limited to one spot, they would catch the same numbers as everyone else. just imho.

Honestly, because there are only 5 guys on the tour that have an IQ over 60. You would have to be completely retarded to take bass fishing seriously.

I agree completely. I hate all of the bass shows on tv. On WFN mondays are dedicated to ONLY bass fishing.

That is why I love this forum!!!! The opinions vary so much!

Not so dumb when their career winnings are:
Career Winnings: $4,163,476.30

You know, we all have a sport / passion that we love... So a guy that loves it as much as us, and lives in say, Tennesee, that guy should be "labeled" a retart because that is all he has available? Wow!

And as for dumb fish... I've caught well over 150 good sized trout on well over a dozen lures in the past 3 months... Not so smart are they.. lol... Jacks and macks... A fish that is caught on everything from 15 dollar lures down to mcdonald's straws... Not so smart are they.

I've been bassin' down here for well over 15 years.. Maybe landed 2 fish close to or at 10lbs.. There are plenty of 10+, heck 12+ swimming in the canals/pits/ponds/lakes we all fish.. .Don't see them jumping all over my bait.

There's trout fishing, and then there's trout fishing. I'd love to know what you call a good sized trout, in my area that means anything over 25", and big trout begin at 30". I promise you won't be catching them on McDonalds drinking straws. When the water is clear I've had them spook at 80', and I target them on foot with a fly rod. I would say your comparison between bass and schoolie trout is pretty accurate, but a 34" trout laid up in 10" of gin clear water is an entirely different critter, and is definately a world apart from any bass, of any size. I think maybe you're under the impression that I don't bass fish? I live on a small lake, just down the street from a big lake, and about 20 minutes north of the stick marsh. I've done my share of bass fishing. I've caught bass to 9lbs on my 6wt, and getting them to eat has never been an issue. Those tourney clowns can win all the money they want, it won't buy my respect.

Local... you win!

P.S. Trout were never mentioned hitting McDonald's straws... Macks were though.
P.S.S. The "areas" I am fishing "lately" for trout.. About an hour South of you.. My "avatar" pic.. I have a funny feeling its the same areas you are on "foot"... Satellite Beach/Banana River area. And the fish was as you say "laid up" in about 1 foot of water, about 80 feet away.

I won't lie, the concept of tournament angling pisses me off more than a little Jetty. Both bass and redfish tourneys are just simple marketing tools, any moron with the time to do it can make it on the board.

-I never said a word about the way trout fight, but now that you mention it they fight a hell of a lot harder than any bass. Bass fight like flounder on xanex. And you're always welcome to come on down with a pocketfull of beer tabs to try your luck on some NMZ gators, I'll give you 20/1 odds.

That's just my opinion jetty. :happyfisherman:

No offense taken. I'm 37 years old and I fish 30-50hrs a week. I fish when I want, for as long as I can, pretty much every day. I've got it pretty good, and I definately don't need the money bad enough to participate in something I don't believe in. Not to mention they don't allow fly rods in IFA/bass tourneys, the 7'11" thing is a myth, it has to be spinning or conventional. If I did any kind of tournament fishing, it would be with the intention of humiliating everyone involved, not because I needed the money.
