My First Boat Trip (Any recommendations?)

if you want to catch fish trek up to dania and hop on sealeggs. the will supply rods and rigs for what is biting. its always a good idea to bring your own drinks and snacks. I tip on how the mates treated me and the other customers. I do alot by myself so I cant base it on that. I always pay attention to how the mates help out first timers and tip accordingly. I took care of the mates very well on my last trip. they go out to catch fish not catch your wallet

If you want to just say you went out on a boat for the day catch my drift is where its at in my opinion. being based in the heart of the fort lauderdale it is a tourist trap unless your a regular. I have been on the boat prob 10-15 times and have had only 1 successfull trip. Mates seemed agrivated when asked for a hand or a tip on hooking bait or rigging.

1. For starters I enjoy going out on the Sea Legs. Thats my first pick.

3. Yes for a few dollars they provide you with 4/0. They provide tackle for you also. Chicken rig,long leader, or kingfish rig. Just ask. About food and drinks- Yes, bring food and drink. You can store your cooler in the cabin.

I know I can't say which one produces fish because it's always going to vary, but I don't know if there are specific boats that do target fishing? Like, does one specialize on specific types?
Morning- Kingfish flatlining, Snapper on the bottom (drifting)
Night- Snapper (anchor)
Of coarse there are many by catches. Look thu the archievs at Sea Legs Posts. I have caught big almacos, dolphin, bonita, kingfish, all kinds snapper, grouper, triggerfish, and such.
If you are a fisrt timer I would listen to the captain if he tells you something. Alot of people get an attitude when the captain tries to help you. You have to remember he is there to HELP you catch fish. He is on the water in those situations every day so he does know more that you think. I have seen captains try to help fisherman and they do not take his advise and well most of the time the fisherman learn a lesson due to a lost fish or losing someone elses fish. it cost 40 bucks for 4 hours. the Jupiter location goes out in the mornings and doesn't sail on Mondays. the other boat in riviera beach goes out in the mornings and evenings but doesn't sail on Tuesdays. as for the tips.... 5-10 is all. oh you did mention about some boats being rude. well this fleet has some of that but they murk the fish out there to where you just dont give a Dmn about the talk cuz your to busy reelin in.

the Mary B goes out once a week on Wednesdays for an all day trip in ft lauderdale. the cost i believe is 65 dollars but you have to make reservations in advancement. i believe they take your credit card number in case you dont show or you pay using it. also... since its an all day trip, the tip would be a little more like 10-20.

this is a fairly small boat(35') that only allows 6-8 people on board and the price is $120 for the whole day. it goes out of Sebastian inlet and targets red snapper, grouper, amberjack, mangroves, sea bass, kingfish and etc. its a bottom fishing haven off southern brevard county which is the reason why some anglers travel just to go to this region. and for the tips on the rogue wave.... probably 30 or 40 because there is so few people on board the captain's boat.

last friday it was packed as hell...did you already reserved your spots?

I always call before hand yes, Ive fish nearly every Saturday night for a wile now, Just recently on the stern, but normally Kenny's spot I. I spoke to George and he said Friday was really great the boat slayed the Yellow Tails.

Saturday morning was good I had a big bull dolphin spit the hook when we were King fishing, guy next to me caught a 25-30lber bull, only 1 king was caught all morning Jimmy thinks with the abundance of pilchards all the kings are full. Saturday night north current with NE wind boat was swinging like crazy good amount of fish still caught boat was surrounded by 1000's pilchards, fished 1/4 oz Jighead most of the night got the private pool winner 1lb6oz yellow tail All caught on king belly and silversides. Boat pool was won by a 18 - 19" Mutton.

If your gonna book its best to call by Thursday for the Saturday night trip should be able to get spot J, K , 2 or 3.

no i haven't. but i keep hearing how great and phenomenal the catches are. i mean, its only max is 8 ppl. so plenty of room even with a small boat. they usually use live bait cuz the captain fishes over reefs and wrecks off sebastian targeting snappers, grouper, and aj's.
yes he is a bottom fishing machine but many dont know about it because its not advertised that well.

perhaps someone can help me, i tried e-mailing and contacting sea legs but nothing, no reply or anything. but here were my questions, perhaps some of u can assist me. thanks




I understand bait is provided, what kind of bait is provided? Is it part of the price?
Do you provide rods or do we need to bring ours in or do you have rentals?
How many Rods are limit, if any (2, 3)?
Do we pay in advanced or pay upfront the time we decide to go?
Do you accept credit card?
When we get on the boat, will the captain notify us when we could fish?
Also, can we use lures/jigs, do you have any or can we bring any?

I was on a boat sunday this was my setup,

1 rod set up with tripple hook, white and red jig head for kings,
1 rod set up for bottom fishing
1 rod for trolling on the way out/

I found from prior trips I wanna be ready for whatever bite turns on. having the 2 rods pre rigged for diff types of fishing lets you switch them out quick;y depending on whats biting. they offer bait in the price. you can usually use a jig head and lures depending on where you are fishing on the boat. some boats take CC some dont. Blue Heron fleet was cash only on sunday.

i took a boat, but it wasn't Sea Legs, my friend took me to the one at Deerfield, near by there, i only caught 2 snapper, nothing big, although my friend did, 1 king, and some snapper later on. but that's about it. i don't remember the name of the boat. it had some blue color on it.

it had to be the fish city pride or Helen S. i dont think there are any head boats going out of boca inlet. if so let me know.
