I've never used Power Pro but I like it from what I heard I dont like Spider Wire because it cuts my eyes on my rods and gets all tangled up if twists.Power Pro on the other hand is great has smoother casting, sensitive and super strong [super strong as in I've heard of it and seen it being rubbed against pillings on briges and piers].Now if I can afford it thats a differnt story.Perichois

I wasent aiming it at you SORRRRY ive used spider wire and wrong rod and wrong reel=birds nest and alot of my friends use Power Pro so I watch them and some have wrong rod wrong reel and they get birds nests and some have right rod and right reel and it works like a dream. Ive seen
it being rubbed agianst pillings by a 30-36in snook and it would not brake the crap is hard to cut with a knife I hope to some day use it when I can afford it.I watch my friend and thats all he uses is Power Pro and I've NEVER EVER seen him have problems with it and he does ALOT of lure fishing. And its not the lbg its in the rod and reel. Sorry snookfisher.

HEY SF34 !!! CONGRATS ON YOUR SNOOK !!!
BEACHBUM - DAMN DONKEY FIZZLE - FUNNY STUFF - I'LL REMEMBER THAT ONE. THANK YOU FOR THE INFO PERTAINING TO MATCHING LINE WITH GEAR. SOUNDS LIKE YOU'VE GOT THE EXPERIENCE IN THAT AREA. THEREFORE MAYBE YOU CAN HELP ME A BIT MORE - I'VE JUST HAD MY PENN "GREENIE" 710 COMPLETELY RESTORED (NOT JUST CLEANED ETC) AND THIS PUPPY IS READY FOR A NEW ROD. I CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE ONE CUSTOM MADE TO "MATCH" THE 710, THEREFORE IT LOOKS LIKE A TRIP TO OUTDOOR WORLD OR SPORTS AUTHORITY. I'M THINKING 6 1/2 FT. MEDIUM FAST TAPER WHICH SHOULD GIVE ME BACKBONE BUT AT THE SAME TIME NOT TOO STIFF UP TOP. AS FOR LINE I WAS THINKING OF TRYING THE PP FOR THE FIRST TIME. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON TEST (10-15-20) ? YOUR $.02 IS INVALUABLE. THANK YOU UP FRONT !!!!!!!!!! STARS6 ---- HERE FISHY FISHY FISHY

If you use braided line testing more than the line rateing on the reel, use a leader that is rated for the reels line poundage. I have stripped a reel's gears by using braid that is too strong for it (it was a nice Shimano and now its junk). The leader will break before the gears grind down. Also when stuck on a bridge/piling use a 1" wooden dowel to wrap the line around and snap it, otherwise you might break the rod or cut your hand. As for a rod a medium-heavy rod with silicone guides (not metal as they can groove) 6'6" to 7". Best of luck and tight lines.

I use Berkley Fireline on two of my spinning reels. Never had a problem until I learned that I should use a mono backing to prevent slipping. But now just so you're not misled, I fish fresh water for bass. I do get into some snaggy areas with it. The one thing you have to be careful of is not trying to break it free with your bare hands. It will cut you.

This is not a braid but have y'all ever tried P-Line? I don't know how it does in the salt but it is strong stuff and for a mono it has very little stretch. But, if you put it on a spinning reel don't go over 8# test. It will spring off the reel.
