Bill Baggs has its share of snapper and grouper. Takes a while to learn the place though.

You have to know what tides, where to fish, and what bait to use. The only way to learn is to put your time in.

Its always on fire at Pompano. Definitely the best spot for snapper in south florida from shore. Didn't you see the pic of the hogfish?

yea but i dont know much about that fish, i didnt see any snapper pics though, and i thought the farther south the better the fish,

Nah, Pompano has a nice reefline that runs next to it. It has always been known as an excellent snapper spot.

Well i just got back and finished writing the report but somehow i pressed submit and it erased it

Stopped by Gordons on the way to El Farito and Loaded up on 5 dozen very fine specimen on shrimp.

As soon as i got to Bill Baggs i headed over to the curve, as i had never fished it and have heard nothing but good things about it. Too bad the tide was outgoing and hard and my 4 ounce weights wouldnt hold bottom. Im pretty sure you guys either fish this at slack or at the end hour of each tide? I then decided to not cast out and got my stradic in hand with a decent sized shrimp and freelined him around the rocks from P8 through the fence at the lighthouse... nada.

I decided to move to P8 there as i knew fish would be holding. About after 30 minutes there, i decided that maybe casting out with live shrimp wasnt the best idea. I usually cast out mullet chunks, live pinfish, or ballyhoo chinks and those get some attention, but with the live shrimp.... different story.

I rerigged my calcutta with a 4 ounce weight on a snapper rig with a 5/0 circle hook(yes 5/0 the shrimp were colossal) and casted a 5 inch shrimp about 15 feet off the rocks.
This is where things start getting interesting, no longer than 1 minute is the rod down in freespool, than i start hearing the clicker go off. After about a 30 second fight up comes Mr.Groupah, and a fine one at that he was all of 19 inches. I released him so he can grow and hopefully theyll reopen the season soon.

I spent the rest of the day picking at groupers, i caught 3 at 8,10, and the 19 inch one.
Im glad to see the grouper are hungry, theirs a special rock thats holding alot of them ^^.

By 5 pm we were out of shrimp and i was mad. We had left the fish biting and since the tide was incoming now it was the best time to fish for the snappers by the platform.

We did catch 2 keeper grovers at 11, and 12 inches which i cleaned and took home to my suegra because she wanted "pescao fresco". And i also caught a pretty big lookdown which i maybe shouldnt have released since my friend told me after that their good eats.

All in all it was a beautiful day and i got to spend some fishing time with my gf, which is always nice.

There is tons of bait (pinfish and grunts) at the platforms, and we caught numerous undersized grovers.

Next time im definately buying more shrimp, and who knows the creatures that can be caught at Bill Baggs from 5- 630 pm .

Thanks for the report. You may need to bump up to more then 4 ounces to fish that current, try 6 or 8? Muttons should be feeding in the current.

Yea i would have but didnt bring any big rods with me. Stiffest rod i had was a 7 foot redbone spinner thats like 15-30, and i didnt want to push it with that big of weight.

Next time im taking the torium and the 8 foot start and ill chuck out a big weight out.

I really need to get the lock down on muttons, i know how to catch the grovers and grouper but am clueless as far as the muttons go.

Was at the park today from 8:30 - 4.
Decided that even though the tides weren't the ones I wanted to go for it.... Bad decision

We started our way on p8 and by noon moved down to p2 as it was the only empty one, fishing here on weekends is a hassle sometimes.

It was slack tide when we were on p8 and all we caught there was a tiny black grouper which was very lit up. We had a decent spread out with ballyhoo plugs live grunt live shrimp and squid out, some cast out some close to the rocks, but nothing felt like biting.
BY the time we left p8 I saw a small mackerel chasing some tiny 1 inch whitebait down.

P2 was slow most of the time and the bite turned on at around 2:30 too bad ot was ony baitfish. I had a live pinfish out tre for a good 2 hour that never got hit. I i reeled it in only the head was there..

I ended up catching a very rare catch though, flounder !
Was only about 7 inches but hey how many people catch flounder in miami
I ended the day with 1 flounder a small grouper and about 5 small grovers among alot of baitfish.

still have about 3 dozen shrimp left and some fresh pinfish sand perch and grunt, going to Dania now to see if i can catch something to make my day better .

Well anyways nice to report on here, and I'm looking forward to seeing some more reports!

Nice report rare. We got the a little later.
We were fishing at P8 from around 8:30 though and didn't see you, we were the only ones on the pier till around 10 when an old man came and wanted the pier for himself lol.
On the first pics you took that looks like P2 or 1?
I caught the flounder in the afternoon at P2.

Gordon's bait shop shrimps are big now- they always seem to have the jumbo size shrimp

thats because gordon owns his own shrimp boat fleet

Yea their pretty jumbo right now. The average shrimp was around 3 inches with some 4-5 inchers mixed in.

are you allowed to fish on the rocks by the light house? what about on the north beaches where theres not alot of ppl.?
