I caught it by myself Friday morning before the other guys showed up, I was hoping a jogger or biker would come by to take my picture but there was no one around.

Nice report and pictures guys. The mackeral you have pictured is a Spainish though pretty sure. Ceros have bars by their head not dots.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

:stupid: Rare's Mac is a Spanish. It has dots instead of dashes.

The prostitute replied (wiping away tears), "When the check bounced."

Yep, I just realized they were all Spanish. Strange, as its usually ceros that we catch down there.

95 north until you get north of Jacksonville look for a bridge and pull over. There are huge grouper and snappers all over they love whole squid attached to a gotcha.
bro how are you going to put that spot on blast like that
now the next time i go there its going to be packed

Too late. Since Salty post the spot it has already been fished out. Thanks a lot SD, why don't you give up the snapper spot on Channel 3. :)

I'll be down there this weekend starting at long key and moving around if things are slow. Will post a report when I get back on sunday. Anyone heard how the fishing has been the past few days since it has warmed up?

I might head down to try channel 2 on saturday.
Ive fished seven mile, channel five, and long key, but never channel 2.
I suspect its the same there? Fish the incoming with fresh bait by the pilings for snapper?
How far do you guys usually walk down. And if anyone is heading down to the middle keys this weekend and doesnt mind showing me around or just talking let me know.
Thanks.

Wife had her monthly meeting in miramar so i got a chance to hit channel five on friday. got there about 7am on an incomming tide ,started close in and worked my way out trying to find em.
had heavy amounts of p man of wars coming through until about 1030, got stung a couple of times while checking bait.
finally caught one spanish on a pinfish under a cork around 11, then nothing but bait. the tide changed to outgoing and still not much for me.
had to leave before the next tide change and evening bite .
i was in the shade at about 74 degrees and 10 knots all day and that was nice.
noticed alot of charters around and the hoos getting busted

decided to go a little farther south on saturday and just bring one rod so i could be on the move. had a couple of different colored jigs and started casting my way out. got to a spot that is usually good for me and nothing going on with the outgoing . started jigging some pilings not even any jacks or moonfish. next platform nothing.
the sun goes down and i start heading back stopping here and there with no luck. talk to one old guy trying to get his hook out of the gills of a 13-14 grover, another couple had a small shark and decent sized bluefish.
next bridge things are still slow but the tide is changing so now i am casting again. soon i hear the crashing of tarpon feeding close by but they are took wise to hit my jig.
next bridge, same as the others. im thinking maybe it is me and not the fish. did see alot of snook staging in the area. most were overslot so that is good for the spawn.

Fished on Long Key bridge from friday at 5:00pm to saturday at 5:00pm. Mangrove fishing was good, after 2 hours had 6 mangrove in the cooler with the smallest being 13 inches. Caught many more mangrove after that but threw them all back because 6 was plenty for me to keep. During the night I tried some shark fishing. I caught a 20 inch bluefish and put him out alive with the tide going towards the power poles. I was using a senator 9/0, I'm sure not big enough for shark fishing but Its all I have right now. Within 5 minutes the reel starts screaming and I set it into gear. The fish doesnt even slow down so I crank the drag down more, still doesnt slow down so I crank the drag down all the way and still doesnt stop him. After about a minute the reel begins to smell like burnt rubber and the fish never stopped. It spooled my entire reel but I didnt care was fun while it lasted. Time to upgrade to something bigger before trying that again. Once daylight hit on saturday there where mackeral and bluefish around which was fun. A couple of small blacktips, nurse sharks, and a spinner where also caught. Saw some poaching going on but you can read about that in the other thread. As always it was good times down there.

Thanks for the report. Yeah, a 9/0 is a little undergunned for Long Key, especially with the strong current. I caught a decent blacktip on mine last weekend there, but if you hook into a nice bull or hammer you are screwed
