Re: Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2011 "ONLY REPORTS"
Fished yesterday from 0830-1700 caught a lot of juvi pomps and one keeper in the morning. Also managed to get 2 blues. Lots of ballyhoos mostly on the north side. Somethings busting them from underneath, random explosions of fish, a spectacular sight to see.guys where casting but no takers. Bite slowed down at noontime, went bottom fishing and caught a handful, 4 mangrove snappers, a 20 inch amberjack, 1 black grouper approx 16-18", and lots of spotted pin fish. Later in the afternoon after using all my bottom bait,i went back to the second hut and started casting jigs, macs after macs on a jig. Manage to get my limit. Then i started getting dizzy... i realized i didnt take any breakfast or lunch and its already 1700h. Glad i made it home safely... Till next time!!!

Well i wasn't able to wake up this morning to hit Dania, so might just hit Anglin's after work. I hope i can get out by 4 an try and be there by 5.
Just a few questions...
Where do you guys park, in the parking lot right next to the pier? How much is it?
What are y'all catching the pomps on?
I have goofy jigs which killed the pomps and macs in naples, but dont know how good they will work on this coast.
Thanks for the info guys

Re: Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2011 "ONLY REPORTS"
Rob good to finaly get to see you in person....Pomp bite can only get better....
I headed out to the t cause there were some gogs....managed to bug 8 of them but with the wind it was tough.... they had to move in just the right spot.... would get one or two and then they would move and I would have to wait for a bit... put a couple of them out on a pin rig but no takers....( probably a good thing as I did not have my regular rod and was using that 6500
)
The sweet part was a nice 14 inch Grover also ate the bug....he went in the cooler and now resides as a couple of fillets in mama's fridge
Added a fair number of Cero's and mac's to give me all the chunk bait I will need for the next boat trip..... No large mac's
I need to fish a little less and meet some more of the gang.... Pat and both Tommy's I of course knew.... others looked familiar and I might have even met a couple before but did not remember ( Insert old age excuse here)
Was nice to meet Charlie and his two boys, also I gather that was Bluemack I fished with out on the t for a while.....
Got to work the next 4 but will be back next week probably later in the AM as I have dr appts first thing Monday and Tuesday.
All in all a nice day to be out.

Re: Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2011 "ONLY REPORTS"
Had a great time fishing with the boys yesterday, was at the pier from 4:30 am until 11am, loved seeing all the guys out there, Rob, Pat, Rick, Neil, Tommy, Zebco (sorry bro I still don't know your real name yet lol). And the rest of the gang. As always things started early and we had lots of blue runners to start with and of course no matter how much I told them, my boys couldn't help catching needlefish lol they were chasing them around the pier it was funny., then around daybreak is when pompano fever started, I seen what looked like schools of them by the first hut, just as I was showing Rob, after I caught my undersized pomp, I couldn't see them anymore, then I look down the pier and see everyone hooking up with them! So Pat and Rob graciously helped me boys and Paul caught his first pompano
A nice keeper, then Peter caught his first Spanish Mack (sorry for the blurry photo, Mack would stop moving)
Then Paul caught a couple of these, I guess a porkfish? Super gorgeous fish!
Not much besides little runners and jacks. Wanted to thank you again Rick for the pompano, it was delicious, first time eating it, we baked it whole and picked because I have never filleted pomps before, either way with herbs and butter it was great!
Thanks for another great day at the pier guys!

Re: Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2011 "ONLY REPORTS"
Ok first sorry for the late post for this week, but i was fishing and when i got home each night I ate and when to bed to get up to fish again. Yes i know it is selfish but what the hay I Gotta Fish when the fish are on.
Monday Morning
Out to snapper land I went, got set up and was fishing by 4:30am, we get a couple of small blues and hand full of Atlantic Sharp nose sharks and then in the pitch black morning one of my 990's starts to scream and I grab it and the fish is on I flip it to find a nice 15 or 16 inch Yellowtail snapper dangling from my hook and I say YES I lik'em this size, next Roofers rod goes off and he pulls in a 17 inch and then I get another Sharpnose dog gone it these things fight at the last minute just before the flip.
So now the sun is just giving us a nice glowing horizon
I go inshore and tend to a hoop net bait it and drop it the creepys have been around so why not, its Halloween time.
Another one of my rods goes off and I reel that one in and it is a 15 or 16 inch Mangrove, I barely get that in my cooler when my other rod goes off and this one puts up a good fight but I win and see that pink come up from the bottom and its a nice Mutton and was 18 I just checked and made sure it was well over 17 so it could have been a bit larger then 18.
Check the Hoopy and whalla--"voila' 2 buggys
So another Sharpnorse and then I get another scream and I set up and this one almost WINS he gets into the rocks and I give him slack and give it a hard tug and lift and out he comes, I flip him and he has swallowed the circle hook deep and is bleeding bad I get a measure on him and he is 16 1/2 at best and would normally release to catch another , but he is not going to live so I cooler him, circles do not stop a hungry fish from swallowing a hook no matter what anyone says, I see this year after year at this time and they are hungry fish and swallow on one bite.
Next rod to go off is the roofers and he brings in a beauty a nice Mutton the biggest of the Morning, we head inshore and the fishing is slow except for BUGS, every so often I see a nice Mack come up and I saw 2 that went over 5 or 6lbs, another on the tee that went bigger it was a Cero.
Hang out and Check the Hoopy and whalla--"voila' another bug check it a little bit later in the carb trap hello Stoneys pluck and then Pluck and then check the hoop a little later and another Bug, I am done only needed 4 Bugs and have no need for any more today, I put away the the gear and I hang around until 6pm and see many critters coming up from the floor of the oceans matter of fact it is one of the best walks I have seen in many years.
Tuesday
Get out about 5am head to Snapper land and way to many people for my liking so after 2 baits I pack it up and head inshore and leave those that are there to contend to the madness. Macks are coming up but scattered and some jacks around, saw a couple of nice Macks come up at the Tee and a Nice Mutton later in the after, wasn't a great day but some fish were around, Bugs were still crawling but not nearly as many as Monday.
Tally for Tuesday, a couple of Macks, crap load of Undersize Pomps and boocoo Ballyhoo everywhere getting shredded by Bonita and big Macks.
Wednesday
I had hard time getting out of Bed and talk to the roofer at about 5:30am on the phone and he says he has been feeding the sand perch for the last hour so I fall back asleep and figure I will get up in an hour or 2 and the phone rings and I hear Keeper Pomps and coming over the rail I just saw a Behemoth coolered, I was dressed and headed out the door before the call ended-Thanks "Pat", now you see how it can change in an hour from perch to real fish you have to be ready to roll, I get to the pier and get out with no coffee in me so I am a bit grumpy, I see Charles and his boys and I hear how they got Pomps that is Awesome, Congrats.
I make my first cast with an Xrap because I see my favorite flash and bam first cast a decent Mack, get it in and for novelty sake I put out fleas on my old school Pomp rod that is never used but for the 2 time a year for the novelty of it. It not long and I have a keeper on it, cool looks good a little later I get another on a flea and I caught many small ones on the jig, through out the day I get a few Macks about 8 or so and a couple of ladys, I drop the hoopy for the heck of it around 11am and let it soak about 45 minutes and I actually forgot about it and when I pulled it up 3 Keeper Bugs, I pull it again about an hour later and 3 more that is the way it is done in my world two pulls and LIMIT.
Sorry no pic of today I forgot until after I cleaned everything, Bummer
Tally was 2 ok Pomps, 8 Macks, 2 bluefish and 6 Bug tails.
The walk is done from what I can tell for now, I have seen nothing in 24 hours, so until that occurs again and that is only once or twice a year I will be waiting
It could still being going on in other areas just not Broward from what I see now.

Re: Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2011 "ONLY REPORTS"
It was really nice meeting you on the pier yesterday Tommy and thanks for the tips. It was pretty cool when you shined the light on that piece of bait in the water, I casted the gotcha and had a blue on my first cast!
Well for the report, here it goes.
Left work early at around 330 and was home at about 4. Was on I-95 by 445, and took the express lane until the golden gate interchange...$3, but worth it.
I had to get off on Broward blvd since the traffic was horrible starting there and heading north. Took Us1 to commercial and got to the pier right around 6.
Soon as I got there started casting gotchas and my gf was casting goofy jigs, while the sun was still up. landed 2 pompano that were just short, and my gf got cut off by 1 mac and lost a ladyfish and a second mac on the flip.
Once the sun set I put out the bigger rods with fresh blue runner chunks and some frozen ballyhoo I had from a couple of days back.
Got cut off about 4 tomes the whole night but landed 4 blues of which I kept 3, one of them being pretty decent at around 4 pounds. Also caught a 3 foot nurse shark and a small sharpnose.
All in all was a decent evening, got to meet Tommy and a nice guy whose name I forgot, and had a couple of cold ones.
Final tappy was 3 bluefish kept from 2-4 pounds
Sorry about the spelling, had to make this report from my phone since my work internet is down for some reason.

Another thing.. I havent heard anyone mention eel. I went out on Sat night and the only thing that attached itself to my line was an eel.
Is this common at Anglins?
