Heard that, Beemer! Thanks for the report! That "pop/squish" sound you heard in the background is another beer can being opened, as we wait for the annual "Rush to the Rail". Maybe tomorrow. Come on, weather!
Those other fish must be smart. We caught all the stupid ones!

Nice to know the cobes are attacking Anglins...The keeper pomps are in? I mean not 1 dozen throwbacks and one keeper here and there. By the way, thanks for the report.

Re: Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2011 "ONLY REPORTS"
Fished from 5pm until 9:30ish... basically had no clue that tonight was the Asian Rave party, we had a large crowd at the hut playing bachata loudly (which I kind of like though) and about a thousand glow sticks in the water... fun times.. fun times.... actually though, had a blast, saw a ton of ribbons come over the side, also a few macks and blues on those glowstick setups (I couldn't believe it either), anyways, I got a decent amount of blues on frozen mullet and a few grunts and snappers but too small to do anything with. Could not catch bait to save my life, except for one large Goggle eye!! but then I sent him out as a volunteer and he wrapped me around the pylons because I wasn't giving him the attention he needed!
A highlight of the night was getting to meet Richard.. super nice guy.. he caught a bonnet head, decent sized one too!
My favorite part of the night had to be the wonderful glowstick people plopping their lines right over mine and leaning their rods right on top of mine.. seriously.. what do you do in that situation.... what is chinese for "I am 6'4" and twice your weight and have large enough hooks to use you for tiger shark bait" anyone finds out.. please let me know! Gotta love their yo yo get ups too...

I gotta see this glow stick set up. What is a glow stick set up? Is it my new go to pier rig? Will it replace the Florida Trolley?

Re: Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2011 "ONLY REPORTS"
Fished from 10pm to 1pm the following day. Caught a gigantic ray to start on a goggle. Almost spooled me. Blues during the night, along with short pomps. Caught some margates - one being about 6 pounds+. The morning saw some macks come up. My giirl caught a short cobia. gawd...
took home two macks that Mike and Rick gave us. Thanks Mike and Rick - you guys are awesome. And thanks for the tip on the crappie jig. I owe you one.

We stayed till about 3pm and kept working the macs ended up with 11 in the cooler one about 5lbs, Corry landed a slot snook in the afternoon that ate a blue in the surf, we kept getting blues and an occasional jack. saw a few short cobias and went blinding a jig for a bit. Nice day good crowd usual suspects and allot of ribbon hunterscrashmister wrote:Googan central out there today. A few macs, but you really had to work for em. Only saw 2 blue's all morning. Re: Anglins Pier Fishing Reports 2011 "ONLY REPORTS"
Fished Sunday night with two of my boys from 5pm until 10pm, lots of grunts, guy next to us kept hooking into large snook and lost them as he had them next to the pier. We also caught a lot of margates and saw a bunch of small sharks and cobes patrolling the lights, tons of bait, and my oldest son hooked into something that the guy next to us called a rabbitfish, it looked more like some kind of grouper though because of the coloring and size, it was big! Caught it on fresh cut runner. Either way, had a blast again with the boys and great seeing Tommy out there! If anyone has info on these "rabbitfish" please share because I couldn't find them.
Thanks
Charles

Then what the heck was it.. it looked like a large grouper, with markings similar to a nassau grouper, which I know it wasn't.. just never saw a "rabbitfish" that big.. when I looked them up.. it was a weird kind of fish that isn't even in our area.. one thing.. it was one heck of fighter though.. took my kid under the pier and around a couple times.. he is dying to know what it was! lol

Yup Rob that is what it looked like, just a little more markings than the one in this photo, the boys want to come back out to get one on the pier this time! Peter got it in the same spot I got my sweet mutton at!

Smooth puffer fish. Don't see a lot of them down here but it is normlly winter when I have.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.
