Re: Bill Baggs Park -- 2010 Fishing Reports Only
I had the day off and wanted to hit up somewhere other than Dania beach for once so I drove down to Bill Baggs to check it out. I arrived about 2 hours before high tide. I was surprised at how fast the current was sweeping through. The water looked good so I started throwing a white/red zara spook as I worked my way towards the light house.
As it turns out there were hundreds of barracuda around. Ended up landing one on the spook and switched to the ghost xrap and they were annihilating it. 4 or 5 following every cast. Took a photo of the smallest one, the rest were about double the size (they were getting bigger the closer I got to the lighthouse).
Had a huge reef shark circling the area I was fishing. It pursued my xrap but didn't hook up. I was going to cut up a cuda for bait and try and hook up on it with my heavier setup but the bite slowed for a few mins. I ended up seeing it again, cast about 5 feet in front of it. He hit the lure but immediately cut my leader (25lb fluoro lol). No chance on him but who can resist? I had no idea sharks would attack an artificial bait btw.
Anyway I ended up taking a lunch break and came back on the outgoing tide. Tried to fish a D.O.A. shrimp but the cudas kept raping them so I went down to the fishing docks. No luck but I did meet a guy who caught a flounder.
I'd love to go back sometime soon with someone who knows WTF they're doing. Need to catch some dinner, not just cudas.

Yea the cudas are plentyful during the daytime close to the lighthouse and on the first set of piers. I caught a flounder there last year which was odd.cvstrat wrote:I had the day off and wanted to hit up somewhere other than Dania beach for once so I drove down to Bill Baggs to check it out. Re: Bill Baggs Park -- 2010 Fishing Reports Only
Had another decent day at the Baggs today.
Stopped by in the morning to get some trout and managed a healthy 18-19" one, and a keeper mangrove snapper on topwater as well, a first for me.
Headed to baggs and decided to hit P7 for once. Was using the grouper setup and i got scooled, despite using over 30 lbs of drag, 50 lb mainline, 80 leader, and a heavy ass 10' rod.
Decided to do some moving throughout the day and ended up at p8 at about 5.
There i met "Chris" ' dad. He told me his son fishes alot with geo and joe, and he hadnt had any luck so far.
I got 5 lb jack soonafter on ballyhoo, and a very nice, fat grover that me and vinny had seen on thursday.
Got home with my gf and Laz and ate some fried fish, using Chevy Juans recipe which i have adapted in some ways.
Everyone enjoyed the food and had some good pulls today

Some of us have to work! I'll probably be back there next week though I have a few days off.

Re: Bill Baggs Park -- 2010 Fishing Reports Only
hit up the park this morning with my dad and we realized we forgot to bring our heavier weights
I attempted a few casts with a 2 oz. but it was being tossed around like it was nothing.
so we ended up just spooning around and he caught a nice jack and I had on a good sized cuda. The cuda had some nice jumps but on its last the spoon went flying out. All in all it was a decent trip. we were lucky a nasty storm just missed us though.
