Kayak Fishing Laws ???

Post by BoatlessFisherman »

Heres a question for anyone.

Other than a fishing permit is there anything else one would need as to Legal documents to Kayak Fish ??

You don't have to register a Kayak with the state, I know that sounds stupid but I don't know I am a Boatless fisherman.

Thanks in advance, BF....Tom

Tom -

I don't own a home PC right now so I utilize my computer at work when I'm able.
So far I've spoken to one person in Ocala associated with a kayak site and:
a) kayak does not have to be registered
b) life preserver is required
c) must have a whistle (some seats come equipped with one)
d) must have a white light visible for one mile functioning a half an hour before sunset.

I was told to check with two other sources that would be a bit more helpful. Florida Marine Patrol and the Coast Guard.

Hope that will be a help.

Tom -

I know what I just posted didn't really fall into the category of "legal documents", but I'm just trying to be helpful - maybe the FMP or USCG can help in the document area.

That is perfect, I am just looking to know what I may have to do in the future, so your answer was very helpful.

Thanks

Stars6,
Thanks for the info. I knew about the life preserver, but not about the whistle or the white light. Now I have something to do tomorrow.
