yeah we kept the jack. I live in Miramar so we felt like we needed to come home with something LOLMiamipescador wrote:Thanks for the report.flipstriker88 wrote:hit up the park this morning with my dad and we realized we forgot to bring our heavier weightsI attempted a few casts with a 2 oz. but it was being tossed around like it was nothing.
so we ended up just spooning around and he caught a nice jack and I had on a good sized cuda. The cuda had some nice jumps but on its last the spoon went flying out. All in all it was a decent trip. we were lucky a nasty storm just missed us though.
Did you keep the jack?

Nothing wrong with that as long as you ate it (or will use it for bait later on) and it did not go to waste. Thanks for the reportflipstriker88 wrote:

Was there yesterday from noon to 5pm and camped out near Pier 1. Cast across the mouth of the bay and caught one 11" undersize crevalle jack and some keeper lane snapper. Used shrimp and herring.
Gorgeous day but brutally hot as well.

Thanks for the report. Invest in a big umbrella and some bungie straps or just rope and tie that to the platform. Sit in the shade during the slow hours

There is no size for Jack crevalle. Thanks for the report!
Back around Pier 8 the construction workers near the bathroom there were talking about how someone caught grouper earlier last week. Pier 8 also had tons of reef fish: parrotfish, triggerfish, blue angelfish, a couple of eels. No idea if those are good eating.

Get a red one with the decal to match your board name and you will always have plenty of space.Miamipescador wrote:Thanks for the report. Invest in a big umbrella and some bungie straps or just rope and tie that to the platform. Sit in the shade during the slow hours

Sup.
Heres a quick report to keep this thread alive
Went yesturday with a couple dozen live shrimp and ended up catching one porgy and a bonnethead which for a second i thought was a nice mutton lol. i did get cut off freelining some live shrimp on a bobber
could not get any bait outside of some pinfish that recieved no takers.
3-4 oz was holding firm so the current was not that bad.

After a while of no fishing adventures I went today to the park and to my surprise the fish were eating... no muttons or groupers but I managed this three nice yellow jacks , a jack crevalle that I threw back in the water a huge yellow grunt and a trigger were also caught and released...not bad for 4 hours of fishing
. pictures coming soon!!

Nice fish! Lose the swivel, tie a uni to uni and you will be rewarded with some more fish!

I don't get what you mean?...this is one of my common rigs when using live shrimp and casting over a 100 feet... it is the only way to put a live shrimp on the deep end of the channel where the current is strong and the fish are feeding.swordfish wrote:Nice fish! I believe what he's saying is that it looks like you're using a swivel there, to connect your main line to your leader material. You don't need a swivel. There are several knots (uni to uni knot (use google) is a very simply one to tie) which can eliminate the swivel. Fish can see the swivel and will turn away. The less metal on your rig the better.

Re: Bill Baggs Park -- 2010 Fishing Reports Only
An even simpler knot is the Albright knot. I've used it for wire to mono or 100lb mono to 30lb braid for tarpon/snook. Yes, all those snook i posted pics of during the run were caught on 100 lb mono. Even for light tackle, inshore for snapper. I think it's more compact, less bulky and goes through guides easier than a Uni-Uni. It all boils down to the fact that less metal on your leader = more bites.

Thanks for the answers... I will look more into this type of knots as for the rig I was using I think when fishing strong currents like bill baggs a swivel is a must... but I could be wrong, any thoughts on this matter?
