I don't know about the smooth trunk fish but you can definitely find all the others at anglins, small pieces of shrimp worked well for me catching these types near the end of the pier.

might want to bring a gotcha or spoon along. The bluefish were ravenous yesterday around low tide. Pomps were biting jigs around high tide.

Went today from 8AM-1:00PM there were a couple schools of goggle eyes around, I used some live shrimp but that didn't really yield much, a couple of hits but nothing came up. Around 12:00PM a small school of macks came through and I managed to get one, they came from under the pier so I'm assuming they were following a school of silversides that showed up. Some guys at the T caught a few lesser amberjacks on live shrimp, besides that didn't see much else happening today. Tight lines!

old report, went to anglins about a week and half ago, it was a ribbonfish nightmare!!!! Asian people all over the damn pier with the glowstick rigs, there were so many of these rigs in the water the ocean looked like a giant christmas tree, to make matters worse they were crossing over everyones lines and giving me a massive headache! it was horrible! I did however see a massive hammerhead swim through some of those lights, had a shark bait out but he didnt eat it :(

was at anglins this past sunday, I hooked up to a monster shark at around 11pm. the fight was long and extremely brutal, twice I brought him close to the pier and both times he just ran back out to sea, it was hard to see but from what I did see, it looked like a big hammer. when I brought him close by a 3rd time he apparently saved his best and hardest run for last, even on full drag I witnessed the beast strip several hundred yards of line off my penn international, close to 1:30 in the morning the shark brought me down to my backing and shortly afterwards the line just popped. that was officialy the longest and most brutal fight I have ever had with a shark. despite losing it I got an amazing upper body workout, till next time.

Wow, what an experience. I've done that with tarpon but only on a 15lb rig, can't imagine how grueling on a shark outfit. Gotta wonder though, what becomes of the hundreds of yards of line being dragging around by the beast?

Such a great story. I know you release these fish anyway but I do enjoy when the fish wins. Thanks Chris

2.5 hours is a long time to fight a big fish. You must have been spent. :reeling:

Fished this AM from 6-10 not much of anything coming over the rail and not much bait around. At daybreak I was at the tee messing around bouncing a Gog bug off the bottom and to my surprise I got slammed by a tarpon. I managed to keep him on long enough to have him break water. It was hard to slow him down only using 6lb test line on my bait rod.

i haven't been to that pier in years. How is the fishing there nowadays?? Catching a tarpon on 6lb test must have been a fun fight.

Tool a walk on the planks this afternoon. Lots of sardines threadies and dork jacks around. Saw 2 nice Spainish mackeral landed. Water was offcolored and nice waves so I wouldn't doubt some decent action at day break if wind keeps blowing.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Fished the pier yesterday from 12pm-11pm. There was a big school of pilchards hanging around during the day with needlefish, bluerunners, and cudas chasing the pilchards. We caught 2 small cudas and a nice cero during the day. During the night we also caught 1 14in and 2 15in muttons. I also got a take on my shark rod but didn't hook up.
