Big Peacock on Fly

Went out today for about less than 45 minutes from the time I left to the time I got home. I worked for it and finally got number 20! This was my 20th largemouth/peacock that was 4+ lbs this yearI was tearing them up in the spring. I mostly saltwater fished in the summer, and have been doing some grass carp fishing lately. I caught it on a 4 weight fly rod with 10 lb tippet, on a fly that I tied minutes before I left. I caught 4 peacocks total on fly.

4 lbs 13 oz on 4 wt Fly Rod

The background is whited out. Yes, it is a peacock spot. I am paranoid.

if your paranoid, dont post pictures. All you guys protecting your so-called "spots" is ridiculous.

This kid Islandflyfisher is a GREAT fisherman... could be seeing this dude on television some day. My only reason for not giving him props on his catches is because the blobbing. If you think these fish are pressured... then just walk a block and you will find fish that are not. If you think a spot is a "honey hole" walk a block, and you will find another. If that one is not good a week later, walk 2 blocks, you will find another.

Do what you want with your spots IMHO. There are no SECRET spots anymore. Personally I tell all but to each his own...

Blue/Mikey, I'm with ya on the whole secrecy thing, but....

In all fairness to the Island fly-guy there, Many Freshwater sweet spots can get fished out of Bigger Bass both P's and to a lesser extent Largies to the Cane Polers out there. Some of those lakes are holding fish that took yeards to get as good as they are and minutes/days to clean up upon.....P's are sitting ducks to a crappie jig tied to a broomstick while on their beds and I have personally seen 5 gallon buckets full of P's...Makes ya sick....but since it IS legal, it is hard to chastize someone over. ( I usually ask them to take 5 smaller ones as opposed to one big breeder, but that is me)

I will take anyone fishing, like you to any one of m,y sweet spots ( in fact most of those are same as yours, Blue...hahaha ) but I can see the merrit in protecting the resource to a degree...

Just another angle on the white out IMHO.

I go to all my spots by bike. Some are MUCH more productive than others. While this is a good theory because peacocks are almost everywhere, there is a whole neighborhood near me that hardly has any peacocks. I would rather not lose a spot that is a two minute bike ride from my house, that has fish like this if I can help it.

These are the people that scare me. They come into the neighborhoods I fish in waves. Once one comes, a bunch more will come. They literally wipe the population out of big fish, so it has to start from scratch.

I am sorry if I offended anyone by whiting out my background.
If you guys are that concerned about the background, and don't want me to post reports anymore, tell me, and I won't. I really don't see what the big deal is about me whiting out the background, so I can prevent people from wiping out local fish populations.

I doubt anybody on this site is looking to "wipe out" YOUR fish population, thats pretty much an insult to me. Ill bet 99.44/100 BF catch and release here so quit using that excuse. Keep reporting your catches here, just dont put a picture up.

I like to try to my bass/peacocks up, and have my friends take pictures from a low angle.
It isn't as easy with carp. I was alone when I caught the fish. My house is two minutes. I called my mom, and held the fish in the water until she came. I was lucky that I got a picture that looks that good.

I can't believe that this is that big of a deal to you. But because it seems to be, I will explain my side.

I agree with you about the users that are aigned up. The people on this site are great. The problem is that there are guests that we don't know about on this site.

I am glad that you have enough spots to take chances with them on an internet site. While I have a lot of spots, not many are this close to my house. Lets say that there is a .00000001% chance that somebody finds my spot, then I prefer not to take that chance. That is my right.

The kind of people that feel it is ok break bag limit and slot size laws. The people that have no regard, and whether they know about the laws or not, don't care about what they are doing. The people that wipe out local fish populations with no regard for what they are doing to the canal/lake system.

You are right. I missed that the first time someone posted it. The way I wrote that should be reworded.

Island... you are correct, it is your "right" to blob out pics. All I can say is that these "people" you speak of that "wipe out populations" are out fishing for support, and not sport. Those out fishing for "support" are not surfing the internet looking for pics on a boatlessfishing forum. I could probably speak for every person that has checked out this thread, from the poster to the lurkers - not one of us has kept a "limit" of largemouth to take home to the fillet table.

Now if you were to put a picture on a picture board at a bait and tackle shop, that would be a different story. Here, on this forum, we are all on it because we LOVE the sport of FISHING, and we come on here to learn, and to share... Keep on posting, you are a great fisherman

I can't believe you guys are making such a big deal of out him blurring his spots. I remember about a year ago, someone posted a sweet fish caught on a specific spot on a Keys bridge. I went down there the next weekend (I had already known about this spot and fished it for years) and there were wall to wall people when normally you can have it to yourself. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. There are probably far more lurkers here then you guys know, and word of mouth travels fast about a spot.

My attitude is that it only takes one person to mess up a spot. I take pictures with limited background when I can, but it isn't always so easy.

ya first comment here, i look at this website all the time but never leave a post so heres my response if i knew where this spot was i probaly like most ppl whould want to check it out so BPS guy island is right i dont tell anyone my spots for anyfish, ill tell general area and what lure i used. but the last thing i want is to take my friends fishing or myself and see another person there.most spots take a long time to find and in a 1 day a "Law Breaker" could keep all thses fish and ruin the spot. anyway gj Island, keep postin

Thanks guys! I am definitely paranoid when it comes to protecting spots. I have become a little more lax lately, but will still not post fish pics at certain spots. (Maybe I will start whiting those out again.) More reports to come - salt and fresh - summer is almost here!
