doowop,
Summer is a hot time for snook at Juno. That is what he was referring to. As for you, based on the report by Junochris on the 23 of Feb, you need to get out there with your rod, some egg sinkers, swivels, beads, and leader, and start fishing with chunks of bait, shrimp squid etc, on the bottom for some of those croakers and whiting. You would have a lot of fun with them, and they arent bad to eat.
Give it a try. LEARN BY DOING.

Another good day at Juno
Hello again,
Another good day at Juno Beach Pier today ! About noon there were a few guys pulling out blues one right after another. The highlight of my day is that my girlfriend and I each caught 2 nice sized Pompano. About 17-17.5 inches each. Real nice fish. The late afternoon slowed down a bit, but very actice morning thru mid-day. Think I might try again tomorrow. Good Night for now!

Saturday 3/8/08
There were some pompano taken early in the morning on the southside of the pier, in the rain. Not a large amount but a few. Caught on shrimp, gotcha's and goofey jigs. I'd say average size was 13"-15".
Also there were a lot of croakers and a select few whiting. While croaker fishing with live shrimp one angler landed a snook (to small to keep - 24").
Later in the day I saw a few blues taken but I didn't notice any spanish macks landed all day.
At the end of the day I did see what appeared to be a snook on but lost and our buddy Skippy landed a keeper snook while fishing with guts. No seriously, he was using croaker guts. Nice fish Skipster, 28" on the money.
I didn't make it out on Sunday morning but I wanted to, maybe someone else can comment on the day's action.

Juno Pier March 9&10
On Sunday March 9th I did not see alot of action until about 5:00-6:00,when the bluefish came in.
Monday morning brought a nice Pompano run on the south side of the pier. I saw at least 7 landed, the largest being about 18inch. After that , the day was quiet, until about 5:00 pm when we saw a few bluefish return. One guy had a snook on his line in the morning(not a keeper) and it broke his line swimming free.
Did not fish today (Monday) ,but will be there Tuesday!

pier hours.
Frank,
In response to your question, the Juno Pier is open from sunrise to sunset 7 days a week from March 1 thru I think October when it re opens 24/7 .
The reason for this is due to the nesting sea turtles. I hope this help you.

Juno Pier Wed. 3/12/08
Another slow day at the pier. A few morning and evening Pompano,2or 3 bluefish, thats all I saw !
Oh, I almost forgot, about 1:00 this afternoon a guy was fishing on the North side of the "T",using a goofy jig. He hooked and landed a 49" Cobia, looked to be about 35 lbs. The fish took him around the T and he fought it all the way up the South side of the pier. Real exciting to watch him fight it !
Luckily, a guy had a Gaff hook and they were able to get the fish up and over the pier. Thats all for today, taking a break from fishing Thursday, will try again on Friday.

Saturday / Sunday
Saturday
The ocean looked like a lake, a clear lake. A few pompano early (maybe 5) and 1 in the late afternoon. No croakers and very scarce whiting. I didn't see any macks but I heard a school of blues came in late in the day. A lot of snook buzzing around in the clear water but not much for bait.
Sunday
Pretty much a repeat of Saturday but no pompano. Very clear and calm water. The snook were active if you could get a bait but between the snook cruising the shallows and the swimmers bait was hard to come by. On a positive note the wind did turn NE in the afternoon.

I used to gripe about the Juno Pier being crowded and the googans on the weekends.
I had the priveledge
of visiting the Deerfield pier a few weeks ago. I was there all of 20 minutes before heading home. parking issues, Googans maximus, little kids in diapers running around barefoot, trash & filth everywhere...
I can't even imagine what a clusterfink it is down there if the bite is on.
Never agan will I complain about the Juno pier

went out today in the am. Caught 2 pompano, one decent size one just legal. Bluefish were also caught. TONS OF SURFERS. I have never seen anything like it. They swam wherever they wanted and no one said anything. They kept swimming into my lines and talking smack like it was somehow my fault they swam into my lines. Thats probably the last time i will ever go to that pier. It was rediculous. The guy in the baitshop told me they couldnt do anything about it cause all the lifeguards were surfers themselves. Total bs, they have the whole ocean, they choose to surf right next the place we fish. ok i am done venting for now. deeznuts out

Swimmers, surfers & lifeguards
The lifeguards need to be held responsible, regardless of whether they are surfers themselves or not. Eventually something really bad will happen or someone will get hurt. Last Sunday the lifeguards pretty much ignored the fact that there were swimmers basically under the pier. There were a few of us trying to get a snook bait in the shallows but the swimmers were either scaring off the bait or in the direct line of fire. I think there will always be some sort of conflict between swimmers, surfers and fisherman but I would like to know if there is a specific law that prohibits surfers from being so close to the pier or is it merely "policy".
See you guys this weekend, pray for no waves

Re: Swimmers, surfers & lifeguards
Its called the "Law of survival." Any idiot stupid enough to swim or surf under or near a peir where people are fishing is just asking to get a nasty hook wound. Imagine taking a hook to the eye. That'll learn ya real quick.Detachedguy wrote: I think there will always be some sort of conflict between swimmers, surfers and fisherman but I would like to know if there is a specific law that prohibits surfers from being so close to the pier or is it merely "policy".

Some pomps in the early this morning, got 4 but a lot of people got their limit. I caught a keeper snook a little over 29 inches. There was a lot bluefish around in morning and someone landed one well over 10 pds, the biggest bluefish Ive ever seen. John had a nice Cobia, over 30 for sure, up to the side of pier but when it started rolling it threw the jig. All together it was good day, except for the rain.

My weekend perspective
All in all a pretty active weekend despite the weather.
Saturday
I got there early (6:45) but they were already catching pompano. A few anglers got their limit. Seem that most were taken on goofy jigs. Some blues were in the area as I saw one guy with a 15lber. A keeper snook was taken also. I left early afternoon but I heard there was more pompano action later in the afternoon.
Sunday
I didn't get ther till around noon but I heard there were pompano around in the early morning and again some blues. I also heard there were a few macks mixed in and a 3 plus lber. taken. I lost a snook and mainly jigged the remainder of the day with hit and miss pomps throughout. Late in the day the pomps came back strong with many anglers catching the max quickly. Many good sized fish with a few large ones lost ( it's was hot, heavy and fun for a good hour and a half).
Just my perpective on the weekend. See you guys next weekend.

I was there Saturday daybreak and limited on pomps. Many of those caught by everyone were of good size. Left at 9:30 and heard a nice Cobe was caught afterwards.
Missed yesterday but heard the pomps bit until 9:00 AM and then shut down.
I'm glad they are finally around. Maybe they will stick around.
