Drop Back?

Post by BDaw »

Im new to shark fishing and Ive got out about a half dozen times since Ive got home from school. Im fishing with decent sized baits and Ive been getting bites, but I havent had a solid hookup yet. When I try and let the fish take the bait they have just been dropping it, and when I try to set up right after ulling the bait out of the fishes mouth. How long should I be letting the shark eat before I tighten down?

What type of hooks you use?and what type of line? You could just be putting the hooks to deep in the bait.

50 pound test mono with a 8+ foot cable leader. I think the hooks are 13/0 circle hooks but im not home right now so im not 100 percent sure.

When i said set up I just meant taking it out of free spool and putting it in gear. Im gonna try not hooking the bait as deep and see how that goes.

make sure to leave as much of the hook out as possible. even use a trailer hook a few inchs down. make sure your hooks are really sharp. i sharpen ever hook i buy before i use it. and i also like to let the shark eat for 10-15 seconds. usually more torwards 15.
only the big and strong survive

Yup...with a circle, you should have the barb exposed and have a good gap between the bait and shank...that is, if you don't want a gut hook.
No matter where you go, there you are!
