Todays Report... The mango's were out of control i caught 10 keepers in a matter of 30 min. The were litterly hitting
all small baits that hit the water. The funny thing is that they were all on the surface. I also caught 9 snook the biggest being
37 in and i caught three slot fish. Blue runners were everywhere... Juno was on fire today...

What was the average size on the grovers that were keepers?

Re: Juno Fishing Pier Reports 2008
bolo i heard from a lot of the local guys leaving the pier that they were getting mostly 12'-16' grovers with a few bigger mixed in. the bite turned on again about 30mins before the pier closed. the muttons moved in but i think there was only one keeper, there were also 2 small but legal kings landed in that same 30mins. one of the kings was caught on a bottom rig with shrimp.
hookinsnook that water was dirty after the first hut. more of a green tint. there was a school of small baits with the bigger threadfins and dines mixed in around the outer edges. but the bait is there just not like it was a week ago

Dave told me the water there is basically black now. He got a small king and there was 5 or 6 others caught and some grovers were being caught.

the average size was what he said about 10-16. The water was clear in the morning but as the day went on
it started getting a green tint. There were not that many big baits mostly small pilchards and dork jacks. There were bigger
baits but you had to find them...

Hit the pier after the BBQ with Mikeypbg, Ricky, and Alex07 and his girl. Reelemin also joined the party. I finally caught a keeper Mutton out of the 5 Logan and I caught. Saw one fat Mutton of 21 inches brought up and a few over 12" Grovers and a few keeper Muttons. Water looked like Lake Okeechobee. Bait was around. Small Gogs, greenies, and dork jacks.

Snooks were biting. We couldn't see anything cruising around that's how bad the water looked, put this way I was having a hard time seeing the bait in the bucket. Muttons looked like they were starving, Out of 10+ plus that we all caught James was the lucky one the get the keeper

muttons and grovers everywhere, some snooks and a couple of big ladyfish caught too, I caught 4 shorties 14"-15" flatlining a crappie jig tipped with bait on my light spinner, lots of fun, the other rod with the big baits on went untouched
Congratulations bud!

Went out there this morning for an hour and half. Got one little 30 inch king, a bunch of short muttons and a couple snook. The water is still really dirty and no big baits around at all.

Re: Juno Fishing Pier Reports 2008
Well, the boys said it all. I had a few solid runs through the few hours we were out there. Just short muttons (one was really close). One frayed my leader all up and down and I can only think it was a snapper running to a hole. Had a nice hit right before closing on a pilchard under the pier. Seconds later, the guy next to me caught my 16in grover after I got cut on the piling (12lb test and light leader).Alex07 wrote:JDL wrote:Were the snook biting, or just cruising around?

you should of taken a pic of it. I had 2 nice run under the pier 1 caught me off and the other dropped the bait. I saw 2 guys trying to keep undersized muttons but I had to tell them something. Saw another guy killed a mutton trying to get his hook back. Over all it nice productive day. James by the way did you have any fish in your pockets when you got home?
Justin,
You couldnt see the snook at all. And the ones that were caught were all just under slot or bottom of the slot fish.
Alex,
Good job policing the catch. Better job knowing how to speak Spanish.
James,
I had a friggin dork jack in my pocket. Next time I see that lil crap logan, hes going over the rail. Its a good thing I always put tackle in my pockets and need to check when I get home.

LOL luckily for Logan I found the bait before we left the pier. lol Logan is definately a crowd pleaser.Alex07 wrote:James by the way did you have any fish in your pockets when you got home?
Mikey it's a shame you're heading out of town. Next time you see Logan he may be bigger than you and he may be the one doing the tossing.
John thank ya sir. Felt good to get a keeper after a weekend of plentiful fishing with no keepers at Anglins.

Is Big Vinny a big Bahamian guy that used to fish Deerfield and Anglins?
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Yea, I know him from when he fished with seth back in the day. Vinny still makes it to Juno once in a while. One of the best pier fishermen around.

Re: Juno Fishing Pier Reports 2008
sorry for the late report(my computer is all messed up) I was at the pier basicly all day yeaterday, the T was pretty slow in the earlier part of the day other than a milllion runners but then turned on with bonnies, jacks and kings. i caught a few 15' muttons when i was out there and had the rest of my baits eatin by snook. snook are still round the pier. i moved off the T to do some mack and snapper fishing. mackeral were everywhere. i took 6 home none less then 20' and threw back another 10 or so. i even got a 16' pomp to my surprise. then the mullet run came throught bringing millions of mullet, snook, jacks and a lot of sharks mixed in. with out the mullet there was plenty of bait at the pier. small baits were everywhere and big schools of big dines and some huge cigar minnows were around, bait was not a problem. so basicly yesterday was a great day to fish the pier. hopefully tomorrow ill be able to see the lobster walking around the pier, i think that will be something cool to see.

Re: Juno Fishing Pier Reports 2008
ahh thanks for the info about mullets on the beach- not to digress this, but me & the brothers were netting some small finger size ones up (from small groups of them) last week in some WPB ICW spots. Lobsters- lol! cool thing! look for the brownish rusty colored "clouds" in the mid section to near the beach.

Re: Juno Fishing Pier Reports 2008
quick report. there were grovers at the T with a few keeper muttons still hanging around. good amount of good sized macks were around along with blue runners. bait was there but hard to get in the morning and early afternoon but the bait schools moved in later in the day bring some kings with it. the mullet ran through bringing some sharks and big snook. the snook were around in small groups but not really biting. the black water from the intercoastal was making its way to the pier and by 8pm it was with in 100 yards which means the water might be black tomorrow but depending on winds and tides it might be moved out by mid day.

No kings this morning and the snapper were really small so we crushed the snook instead

We got 18 total all oversized
