Re: Jetty Park "Fishing Reports" 2013
Jettpark, you are killing it out there, way to go! I decided to hit playalinda up today to see if the pompano are still around. In 6 hours i got one keeper pompano, but that was not the fun part of the day. About an hour before i left i casted out my pompano rod and was standing near it when i heard the drag slowly pealing off it so i walked back and picked it up and reeled down and fish on!!! this thing was big, and started pulling me up the beach in the direction of swimmers, and i followed it putting a LOT of pressure on it. i would get a nice amount of line back and then this thing would make a HARD run out peeling like 30-40 yards of line. Fought the fish for ten minutes and finally managed to see it. It was a shark, around 2-3 foot long, but i was happy. Now comes the fun part. i manage to land it and it is a bonnet-head shark, and it was definitely the biggest i have ever seen. It was also the largest shore-bound fish i have ever caught and it weighted around 15-20 lbs. SO i was happy, but now comes the even more fun part. releasing it. I don't know how shark fisherman do it with huge sharks like hammerheads and bulls, because this "small" shark was terrifying to release. i walked it out and spun it into deeper water and basically ran on water back to the beach haha. looks like next week i am going to have to hit the port, because i want to get in on the game fish action. Oh BTW if anyone is interested in shark fishing, go to playalinda, In the time that i was there i saw way over 100 BIG sharks jumping and spinning through baits schools around 500 yards off the beach and sometimes a little closer. I think they are spinner sharks because they fit the name, but one guy i was talking to on the beach said they were black tips so i do not know, all i know is that there were a lot of them and they were big. The weather was nice through the morning, but it was typical summer weather so at 3 the wind picked up and a storm moved in and when you are at your car packing up to go there are a lot of bugs. Hopefully next week when i hit the port the fishing will be good and i catch something nice! good luck out there guys!

Re: Jetty Park "Fishing Reports" 2013
Jettypark, I didn't see your message till I got back, so I went to the park, but I am glad I did... I took my buddy with me, and we fished the whole day, and the fishing was Okay, but the action was slow, and we only got 3 keeper snapper. Then around sunset we moved to my favorite spot, and the fish were there and they were chewing!! Before we knew it we had 3 keeper mangrove snapper, a BIG lane snapper and a GROUPER!! I have never seen a grouper caught here before, so I was pumped!! It looked like a gag, or a black grouper, but I was not sure, and it was only 14 inches so we released it to catch another day. We also hooked up with a bunch of jacks, and a couple of mystery fish that rocked us. I also brought a BIG snapper up to the rocks, but while tring to net it, it managed to spit the hook... It was good for an hour, and then when it got dark, the bite died, so we left.... Hopefully as summer progresses it gets better... They were still actively dredging, and the tides were really HIGH!! Soon it will be vacation time, so I will be able to fish much more often, so hopefully the fishing gets hot! Tight lines!

From all the reports and such, there seems to be a good amount of rays at Jetty Park. Maybe I'll try to catch those one of these days. I know for a fact that they fight hard.

Yes. They wore me out last night. Throw a pinfish or cut mullet out as far as u can towards the middle on a high outgoing tide n wait. Dont let them dive to bottom when fightin them cuz theyll glue themselves to the floor. Wouldnt have minded keepin some for shark bait but they were all way too big to fit in my freezer

Butterfly rays. Caught a few of them all around a 3 ft wingspan give or take. Thats a pretty average size there. Not to say they're too big for A freezer, just too big for MY cluttered freezer

Re: Jetty Park "Fishing Reports" 2013
Dude, sucks you didn't get another snook but at least you had fun. I was at school Friday so I couldn't make it but I hit the port today. I was making my way to jetty park and I stopped at a bait spot near the bridge along the way. my dad was fishing a live shrimp while I cast netted some bait, and he caught a Keeper flounder, so I gave up on cast netting and began fishing there... From 12-3pm we fished and caught 3 keeper mangrove snapper and another flounder which is not bad for a bait spot! Haha, then the afternoon storm hit so we left... One of the mangrove snapper was BIG and FAT, so I might post a picture of it later.. This summer is already looking good! Oh, we also caught a lot of jacks!! They are thick in the river right now...
