Fisherman Fishing Anonymous FFA Official Thread

Post by oceanorange »

Original Title:
There's something about fishing.

You know, I’ve tried to give it a little thought, about what makes fishing so different from other sports, events, get-togethers? I’ve been to many meetings in many places for sports, office, general events, lunch meetings, Clubbing, bar hopping, camping with family and friends. But then there’s fishing events, whether by your self or with others you know or never met.
There is a difference when it comes to fishing, you get to do something you really like, you have the adrenalin waiting for that infamous fish that’s always breaking lines, or it’s the smell of the ocean, the sound of the surf. I believe it’s more than just the fishing, take for instance that you can even have the pole in your hand and you never end up casting once with it, But it’s still considered that you went fishing!
Also, there’s the selection of lures, and the way these specific lures are used. Every one of us has his own technique, and takes great care to even share it with a fellow next to him. There’s the way the line goes on the reel, which reel is more expensive or is one better than the other? Rods, lures, even fishermen poking fun at each other with the term “googan” which makes no sense to me. Just because everyone of us has a different way of thinking, which way to catch that special fish, does not make it worse or better, just different.
This is why I like fishing, there is so much to do, with not much time to do it, as tides rise and fall, currents and wind directions change, fish move through in schools; (but you miss them because your line is tangled, or you are setting up). I think it’s the fun of just being there, just being there knowing you have a chance, to wake up early in the morning, and to get to where you’re going. Rain, wind, cold, heat… nothing stops you when you have this idea,
I’m going fishing.

Let me know of your ideas about “fishing” I just think sometimes I’m a little impulsive about fishing, but I like it, no matter how good or bad the fishing is, and even going as far as fishing before work, during lunch, and after I leave work, then again every Saturday morning I go for 5 hours.

Thanks for reading.

In addition, how hard it is to explain to someone you love, that you love fishing just as much, where does the balance begin or end? I know she has a hard time understanding my passion, and so do others I come in contact with (it’s all I talk about). I know they just accept it, and know it’s what I just do. But do I really understand this passion, or do I accept it as everyone else around me accepts their passions?.

I am a fisherman wanting to learn what drives me to fish, what I feel or miss while fishing or when thinking about fishing.

It’s got to be that there’s that chance to catch that fish I’m thinking of at the moment, I don’t have to keep it, or even take a picture of it, I just want to meet him/her and come in contact with that Idea I had about this fish, or fishing situation. It’s putting a place and action into the thought and idea of me going fishing.

Boatless Fisherman, Thanks for your inspiration through this site, Your Idea gave us ideas, which we keep sharing with ourselves and others, Let FA "Fishaholics Anonymous" begin!! LOL

My names BD (Hi BD). I'm not really a fishaholic, I'm just interested. I've still got it under control. I don't have to think about fishing, talk about fishing, buy fishing tackle, or fish all the time. So I'm okay, right? Anybody know what time the tide changes? Gotta go...
Wanna go fishin?
We ain't left yet?

Born to fish, will probably die fishing. But, I'm not hooked on it. I can stop anytime my wife says stop. Any one of you fishaholics know of any good sales going on anywhere in Florida. My wife said I couldn't fish this coming weekend but, she didn't say anything about me not shopping for fishing. I'm sure glad I'm not hooked like the rest of you.

Let see - Addicted behavior - Hard to describe, but simply put " When it interferes and causes problems in other areas of your life"

Yup im in.

OO, not sure exactly what causes it, but for me, I dig the ritual of it. PReppin, setting up, constantly improving my chances with better bait ideal rigging as conditions shift etc.....

It is good for my head and sometimes I am rewarded by catching a fish. Kinda unecessary most times as I do it for other reasons as well... Mostly because I am too old and responsible for drugs and womanizing anymore.....lol

Hi, my name is jackhunter and I am a fishaholic.

Although I don't get to go as much as I like, I do still think about it alot.
What's even worse is, I think I am alittle like orange. I have a scenerio in my head as to what I am going to fish for, what baits I am going to use, what the tide/weather should be, and sometimes, who I want to come with me. Although, I do not have a problem going alone. Which I might do after my last two trips with stormrunner aka bad luck!!!I always get a little tweeked when my scenerio doesn't work out the way I planned and bummed if the fish I wanted weren't around. It's easy to say that it was just nice being able to go fishing and catch something, but that really doesn't cut it with me.

I'm not alone; I know there's others out there that have it worst than me. Even my wife is becoming an addict. She calls me from work seeking her evening *fix* 8) . I am happy to know I have a place here with other like yourselves. Thank you for your help.

My addiction must be as bad as I thought.
I usually stay fishing till all my bait is gone. Is that a good thing or bad?
My freezer is stocked with what I call PLAN B, beef or chicken.
If I eat what I catch, it's usually the same day. FRESH!

Well Said!!! Fishing is not something to do and once you catch a fish you stop...you cant just say that u did it and its over. Fishing is the thrill of the fight, braving the elements, and returning home with some dinner from the ocean or Publix Market

I have a confession to make. I too am a Fishaholic. I was able to quit cold turkey years ago in order to spend all of my time clubbing and getting in trouble. Unfortunately 5 or so months ago I was pulled back into this fishing hell where I catch nothing, but still continue to fish for that perfect fight. I try to go out once a week (believe me if I could I'd live on the beach and fish my life away (I need help)) and if I don't make it out that weekend I feel lost.

I fear I have pulled my son into my own personal hell aswell.
"Dad there's not any bait here, lets try over there." "The fish aren't biting can we go to that other spot?" Even worse than that he wants to bring his friends along (hell no).

I'm sinking sinnkkkinnnngggg siiinnnnnkkkkkiiinnnnggggggggg.

Simple… All I do is fish, everything else is second. I am definitely a fishing addict with no end in sight…If I had internet at channel 2 (so I can get on this site) then I would camp out over there for months at a time… No BS… I would. We are all in a bind with work so we can have money so we can buy the things we need to go fishing AND to survive… So I shall keep working to supply my need to fish.

So, I wanted to speak again, as I feel the solitude of being in the fishing hole. I'm in NC, and have not been here but 2 days. My Moving truck is still not here, I have no clothes, I have no money to spare, My car.. well the tire blew while driving through Geogia.. I arrived and it's cold, cold enough that it snows,, I'm in deep depression because of all the drama..

But..Then I crossed a bridge. Under this bridge was a vast moving river. It's 10 am, It's snowing and the roads are Iced up. My honda accord is hating this weather, and my driving skills in the snow are no match. I do know one thing, I have my ultralight stradic next to me, staring at me and asking me to take it out in the snow for a spin. I pulled over, walked with florida flat shoes, slid down the mountain, with mud, snow and red dirt gripping at my fingers, pants and face. As I laugh with concern, sliding closer and closer to these fridget river waters, I'm stoped my twigs, thorns and dirt.
I made it to the edge of the water, bruised and dirty. My Stradic was spankin clean as I held it up off the ground as I slid and rolled (It's all I cared about). I managed to get a few casts out, and lost 2 jigs, and had not one hit. But Dammit, I got to FISH!!!!
Now the way back up the steep hill is another story, I'll leave that one for next time. Pictures of this venture will be posted when I get my internet service, this library is a little small for my taste.. Very strange environment, I'm the only one fishing at 30 degree weather with lots of snow.......I'm an adict for life, and I don't want help, I choose this habit as I will not respond to treatment....

Not only are you a fishaholic but also a forumholic...lol....   :toast: I hope all turns for the better for you man....... :toast:

I have to say that I was an extreme fishaholic in my earlier days, but I went almost cold turkey for 4 years while I was in college, then one night I decided to go fishing with my son, he almost got pulled under the Rickenbacker Causeway bridge...and he said "Oh man, this is a better rush than paintballing!.....oh!oh! it was on again....we have been fishing every weekend since…...the other day I saw a plastic pallet and man I saw in it a beautiful fishing cart (my current project), once again I have a fishing cloud over my head……

I`ve relapsed...

Again...

You know you got it bad when you have live critters living in your car for the last two days, prolly won`t get to fish with them until 2 or 3 more days (weather or not). and i`m stressing on keeping them iced and rinsed with seawater to keep them in primo condition. Speaking which, I gotta run to the beach in the morning just to get fresh seawater...

I need a fix...FISH ON!!!! :P

It's been some time since I've been out on the salt..
I can remember the small details now, since I've been away from the fishing.. The salt burning my lips, the smell of the ocean still in the back of my mind. My fellow companions that fished more than I did, and still fish more than I do now. I can't believe I have been gone from the salt water for 4 months now and I just have to go back to it.
All I think about is the fish I used to catch, the ones that got away, How happy I was when I threw a lure and how unhappy I was when I was tangled on the mess of lines. I can still remember the details of the pier, how it had dirty old rotten fish and chum on the railings, the bird crap that would color my shirt with different S**t patterns. The pelican that always stole my bait, and the seguls that always stole my bait while I casted..
I still remember the early morning sunrise with a hot coffe and a sigarette on my lips.
All I can count on is those pictures that bring me back to the action and friends I made.
This is what makes me a fish aholic, I can't forget.

Sounds like you needs a vacation. Don't forget the piers are open 24 hours, so no matter what time you arrive, they'll always be waiting.
