Bridge fishing in dark-how big is this tarpon?

Post by scuro »

I'm all about catch and release, sometimes that means you do things quickly to get the fish back in the water without measuring. Fishing alone I took this timed selfie and hoped for the best. Try pressing settings on your camera as you're holding a flippin large Tarpon in the other hand! I ended up taking three shots the best two are below. Pic #2 - Top right is the bottom of the head/gills....and you should be able to make out my hand over the fish near the grass to give you a sense of scale. I'm 6'3".

Mentally I was preoccupied. My initial guess would be about 4 ft in the dark but once the fish was coming to shore the heart starts pumping and there is a lot to do to get that fish alive back in the water.
