Fall Mullet Run 2008

Post by BoatlessFisherman »

I have this sneaking suspicion mullet are moving from what I just saw on Sunday Morning in the Juno area and the call I got this morning.

What I saw was numerous Mullet pods at Day break on Sunday, Today i heard about a football size pod moving into Palm Beach county so there is a possibility it could happen over the next two weeks with the storms that are moving this way, just want to let everyone know what I know.

Before someone adds its to early " I know that " But I have seen it happen before with the storms so be ready, I would say with in the next 5 weeks but alot closer if the pods are moving this early.

So I guess everyone likes eating Mullet. Do you use a crappie jig or something?

The secret is

Dough Balls and a Cane pole long shank wire hook number 6 or 2 for the 3 lbders and bigger.

One day I will have a seminar on Canal fishing big Mullet, Bucket of Chicken and cold beer sitting on a Canal bank slinging mullet to the bank.

This is for real, I grew up fishing Nw 9ave and Nw 19st doing this and it is a blast of its own right, back then truly was Bucket after bucket, I would release them now due to the level of pollution in the back water.

I Just got spoiled by cast nets

I know asian people love eating mullet roe. I guess it the next best thing to calvar.

So do we kill the finger mullet only and let the big ones live to spawn another day? I just dont want to piss the conservational people off ..... cough James380 aka Skunk Ape cough....

Its all good you just have to know how to deal with it, I still find myself in that area all the time.

The people who bought our house have made it 10 times better than when we had it and I stop by and say hello when i can, because like I said its all good.

Anyways Everyone I am going to put up some video footage of last years Fall start once I make the movie tonight.

Tommy and Fishnfool, Tropical Storm Hanna looks like it will affect the east coast of florida. Do you think this will push the mullet run? Also, with this storm will we see a snapper bite repeated again?

If we get another storm it will more than likely cause the migration to start early. The problem being that they may just shot past us during the storm or move far offshore altogether. The snapper thing should repeat as they will be around for a few more months in good numbers.....IMHO

Sounds like the Aerojet canal...

If Hanna comes at least we will be able to get some more muttons on the shore and then we will be in deep with how strong that storm can become! And the mullet I have been seeing them in the Boynton area pretty strong mostly the ICW and some on the beach at night in the surf!

Saw a decent size school of mullet off Anglins last Saturday. Right in the surf line.

Hey guys, I just moved from Coral Springs to Titusville and there are tons of mullet of all sizes moving south from up here. We have had some cold water upwellings from what I have read and heard, and with the combination of the storms is probably why you guys are seeing them that far South already. I fished the Mosquito Lagoon this morning and saw 3 or 4 football field size pods of fingers and they were raining every few minutes. Caught a nice slot size snook this morning and had one over slot miss my spook 3 times 10 feet in front of me. Saw some guys on a boat catch 3 redfish, 43, 41, and 39 inches on live mullet. Can't wait until Monday to get one of those tasty linesiders in the pan.
