Freshie Stripers

Post by Tull »

Headed to local river not too far from my house. It's a river system that eventually empties into the ocean. I'm fishing far enough inland that it's 100% freshwater and not tidal. The herring run is towards the tail end and now they're starting to make their way back to the ocean. Unfortunately for the herring and fortunately for me the stripers follow them up the river and they want to eat! When the herring are gone in the next couple weeks most of the stripers will follow.

I fished for an hour and a half and picked up 4 fish on 5 hits. By far my best trip down there yet. The power of these fish combined with the current is amazing. I was using a 5" white Storm swimbait on a 7' m/h rod. The biggest had to be close to 30 inches. The 1st one I had on and lost actually jumped! It was a ton of fun!
