There are times like these I miss the feel of the ban hammer in my hand.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

Hit the beach at Hobie with the kids and brought some fishing gear. Fished a couple hours mid-day and picked up 6 mangrove snappers and a grouper. Too small to keep but fun for the kids.

head a further down to bill baggs park and you might be able to catch some keeper mangroves. Try when its a bit cooler in the day like sunrise or sundown and you'll have a better chance. If you eat cudas there are some good eating sized ones there too.

Thank you, Moose. Definite next stop. My only concern about driving to BB after being at the beach was that it might be too crowded already. Guess I'll have to test it out!

Does anybody fish from this area using lures this evening I went out with a slash bait I caught nothing. I don't know whether it was the type of slashbait I use or my rod type. Can anyone recommend any lures to fish the Rick?

Aint that the truth. Head on down to Bill Baggs and walk the sea wall tossing a plug. You can have fun with the jacks and cudas, and maybe a snook. Try to time it with a tide change and it can be a pretty fun way to spend a couple hours.

Hello Everyone  . It's been a while!

Macks are active. Was there last week Saturday for the first time in a while but got there sometime past 10AM and missed the morning action. Managed to go home with one Mack. The regulars slayed quite a number of decent sized Macks with s'dines on popping cork. I think several 19-20" were caught.

Went today as well but got there early this time for the morning action. Managed to land 3 Macks on jigs between 7-9AM. Two other Macks came over the rail on s'dines and were pretty decent size. As usual, morning action is hot but in the afternoon it's just meh.

Went to the rick sunday morning and managed 3 macks..nothing to brag about..were about 16-18". Kept them for bait on a possible keys trip. Had a few "flashers" but they were finicky the whole time...one guy next to me did lose a very nice one..i suspect it was around 3 lbs...he tried to hand line it up, but into the sink it went.. also, saw one of the most googanish (if thats a word..LOL) rigs i have ever seen... but then again, im at the rick...this guy had a fishfinder wire leader and attached to it was a bass crankbait baited with silversides. WTF!!!! LOL...how did he even think about rigging that bad boy up????? Anyways, nice day out and i escaped the wife n kids until football started..lol...tight lines!

Congrats on your macks bro! :toast:
WTF at the rig LOL!!! I seen some pretty crazy rigs out at Baggs but never anything like that. Glad you were able to get out and fish. You caught 3 macks which is a plus! That bridge can be brutal.

Visted the Rickenbacker after a two year absence and disvoverd the bridge is now closed from 10:00 PM until Sunrise the next day. The parking lot is also closed during this same period and is now reserved for fisherman only by a posted sign.

The wind was howling at 20 mph plus all moring making casting 1/8 oz Crappie jigs near impossible. I had only one mackerel hit and landed a small 14 in Spanish by adding two split shots above the jig. I also had a Crappie jig under a large float but I did not get a single hit or flash with that setup. There were only about five other guys fishing for mackerel and my fish was the only mackerel to come over the rail.
