Snook at the Newport Pier and Mackerel

Post by RippysFishingSupply »

The pier has turned out to be a hot spot for Snook. Anglers are catching them at all hours of the day on live shrimp and whatever live bait they catch on Sabikis. Individual Anglers have caught and released several before getting a keeper size. Mackerel have shown up early this year and Anglers have been getting their limit at the pier fishing live bait, spoons, jigs, even on red/white plastic straws fished on a 2/0 long shank under a float.

Bait was thin...just some small jacks with small pilchards mixed in...but nothing hit the livies

lots of wire and chicken rigs around.....

This past week. The bait moved in and so did the Snook. Blue Runners are thick with some Angler's taking 50 lbs and more on jigs. A customer got a legal Snook yesterday morning[Sat] on a live shrimp and loads of runners.
