Perception Pescador 12'..anyone have one?

Post by PhishingPhanatic »

Thinking about picking one of these up. Gets great reviews, apparently it is a rebranded Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120. Anyone have first hand experience?

I have an older perception prism about the same dimensions, tracks better and is faster than my WS Ride, but isn't quite as stable. Certainly don't think you can go wrong here.

Mine is coming on Friday, was supposed to come 2 weeks ago but the shipping got all messed up (first issue I've ever had w/ Amazon.). Will post some pics on here once I start rigging it. Going to start off pretty slow, going to mount a Scotty rod holder and maybe one more flush mount rod holder, and rig a trolley system for a small anchor.

nice. i have the smaller one i think is 10', is pretty stable and is not easy to flip. I even put of my girl friends to sit in front of me and it was pretty stable.
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. :(

Now we just need an AFFORDABLE dunkable fly reel and we are SET! Fall run madness from a yak... You dont know fun till you take a miami sleigh ride courtesy of a smoker king that just skyrocketed on a mullet pattern you tied ;-)

I have gotten a few tarpon off my old Tarpon 140. It is easier with a rudder that way you still have some control of the boat when you are fighting the fish. I did before I installed the rudder and it got pretty scary a couple times. I kept thinking I was going to flip it. After the rudder it was great because I could keep the nose pointed exactly where I needed it. It allowed me to kick the boat sideways to help slow the fish and turn it back so I wouldn't take wake or a wave broadside.

Came today, they included a Scotty holder and an anchor, wasn't expecting those, sweet. Heading out tonight to shop for a paddle and a PFD, hoping to get it wet tomorrow morning for a trial run.

Good luck bro. I took my Pescador to the ocean for the first time this morning, and it handled great. I went in and out thru the inlet with no issues, I even hooked into a shark and it was very stable. I was able to pull the shark right next to the yak with no issues. Gonna get out there a few more times next week and hopefully take the tarpon ride! Let us know how the maiden voyage goes.
