I'll start posting my reports from the pier I do regularly for my site.

6/3/08

Big Pier 60: Some nice Spanish mackerel up to 24 inches plus, not many of them. There’s lots of sardines, pinfish, and small baitfish around the pier. A few keeper pompano on Doc’s Goofy Jigs. Lots of big snook at night on live bait this past week. In the last two days though, the snook bite has slowed. Water temp was 83.1 degrees on Sunday, reports Tom Leonard of Big Pier 60 Bait & Tackle (727-462-6466).

Frogfish--Here's a compilation of my reports from the bait shop there from last December through January. Tom is a straight up guy and tells it like it is. He doesn't BS just to get people out on the pier to buy bait. He's got a great reputation and his reports are always on the money.

12/1/07
Big Pier 60: The pier has new hours from October through April, being open Sunday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and 24 hours on Friday and Saturday. Spanish mackerel up to 24 inches, kingfish up to 45 inches and 25 lbs being caught this week. The Spanish are being caught on spoons, all kinds of lures, and live shrimp. The kingfish are being caught on live, whole fish, reports Tom Leonard of Big Pier 60 Bait & Tackle (727-462-6466). Snook still being caught right up until closure. A few redfish still being caught. Some cobia being caught, all under size. Sheepshead down next to the pilings on little pieces of shrimp. Lots of silver trout and whiting at night on cut shrimp. Good amout of bluefish being caught as well. "Anything you throw in the water is being whacked by bluefish." Everybody is catching fish this week," said Leonard.

12/8/07
Big Pier 60: A lot of Spanish mackerel being caught this week on live shrimp and the usual spoons and Gotcha lures. A few undersized gag grouper caught this week as well. Lots of little sharks, mostly bonnetheads, caught this week. An occasional pompano being caught, no numbers to report. Sheepshead starting to show up down along the pier pilings. Lots of bait in the water, all sardines in the three to four inch size, reports Tom Leonard of Big Pier 60 Bait & Tackle (727-462-6466).

12/14/07
Big Pier 60: Anglers have been catching bluefish and Spanish mackerel. Occasional schools of good size bonito, up to 10 pounds cruising the beach. Still some kingfish in the area, there is still lots of bait in the water, reports Tom Leonard of Big Pier 60 Bait & Tackle (727-462-6466). Sheepshead have moved in around the pilings, in typical winter fashion even though water temp is still warm. The sheepshead are feeding on barnacles, but not many anglers targeting them yet. Anglers are consistently catching over slot redfish on shrimp fished on the bottom. There are also still snook in the area. At night schools of hundreds of trout coming through hitting topwater. Water has been clear and hovering around the 72 degree mark, Leonard said.

12/21/07
Big Pier 60: The water is really murky and choppy. An occasional Spanish mackerel being caught. Sheepshead are down around the pilings, best best is sand fleas and pieces of shrimp. Anglers are also catching silver trout and whiting. Water temperture is back up to 68 degrees, reports Tom Leonard of Big Pier 60 Bait & Tackle (727-462-6466).

12/28/07
Big Pier 60: Anglers are pulling in large Spanish mackerel, kingfish, and bluefish on Gotcha lures and live sardines. Still some bait around the pier. Sheepshead are down around the pilings all along the pier. Good numbers of whiting at night on small pieces of shrimp. Water temperture on Thursday was 68 degrees, reports Tom Leonard of Big Pier 60 Bait & Tackle (727-462-6466).

1/4/08
Big Pier 60: On Tuesday before the front fishing was still really good with some snook still being caught with one fish over 40 inches hooked and lost right at the water’s surface, reports Tom Leonard of Big Pier 60 Bait & Tackle (727-462-6466). Before the front fishing for Spanish mackerel at night was good and there were plenty of sheepshead down around the pilings. Also before the front anglers were catching lots of big whiting and silver trout on cut pieces of shrimp. With no limit on either fish, the regulars are bringing in as many as they can catch, Leonard said. On Thursday a few whiting were being caught and the wind had subsided to about 15 mph. Fishing should improve this weekend, Leonard said.

1/12/08
Big Pier 60: The sheepshead bite has been good this week around the pilings the whole length of the pier. Cut pieces of shrimp and sandfleas have been the best bait. Silver trout, small black sea bass, and whiting have been biting steady as well. The silver trout have been biting good since the cold front all along the beaches from Clearwater to St. Petersburg, reports Tom Leonard of Big Pier 60 Bait & Tackle (727-462-6466).

1/19/08
Big Pier 60: Before the cold front limited fishing, whiting in the 14-15 inch range and silver trout 10-12 inches were being caught. The sheepshead bite around the pilings up and down the pier was good as well. Live shrimp and pieces of shrimp was the best bait for all three, reports Big Pier 60 Bait & Tackle (727-462-6466).

1/26/08
Big Pier 60: At the pier, mostly whiting and small silver trout being caught on cut shrimp squid, though most of the regulars have been using squid, reports Tom Leonard of Big Pier 60 Bait & Tackle (727-462-6466). A few speckled trout have been caught and there are still some snook in the area but the snook have a case of lockjaw, Leonard said.

Hope this helps brother.

fished the pier 5/1 from 0900 to 1230 and the spanish were everywhere hitting live or dead shrimp under a float, or greenies under a float. there was plenty of bait fish out there being attacked by spanish and small jack crevelles.
