Best ways to use Pinfish

Post by happygrover »

Whats the best way to use live pinfish off the bridges? Set up a bottom rig, close to the bridge? Thanks

Live on the bottom near the pilings or floated out on a bobber.
Dreaming the dream that one day I can be as good as some of the boatless pros and catch some 12 inch mangrove snapper.

I also like to hook them in the anal fin so they swim down, and freeline them around the pilings near slack tide.

Thinking about a pinfish freelined on a piling is making me want to go fishing.

Damnit..I can imagine it...clear greenish water, slack tide...drop the pinfish down ...let him swim down and whack.... all you see is a flash just engulfing it

I wanna go bridge fishing.

So should I have any weight on the line? Like a ounce egg weight, beed, swivel, 60 pound fluorocarbon then hook?

They don't tend to be live for very long after you butterfly them...

In the traditional swnse of butterflying no they don't. In the methond Pat is referring to they do. If you have fished with Adam you have seen it. After seeig it and using it , I am a believer. You " butterefly " one side but leave backbone instact.

I've seen it too... If you butterfly it just right making small cuts on each side or one big on one side w/o exposing the bone it will stay alive for a while if not they do die quick but either way if it isn't hammered by a fish it will be slammed by a shark. Same thing with grunts
