Sunday Nov 4 Dauphin Island report...

Post by Pier#r »

I slept in, but went by the DIPier about 11 am and took these...

View westward through the 'pass' (most of the water is 3'-5' deep)
Image

The current has gouged out a slightly deeper trough on either side of the pier.
'hole' on westside...
Image

'hole' on eastside...
Image

There is still the deeper trough that runs from 1/2 way out on the west side under the pier to the east, but there's no current there.
Image

And there's even less water now east of the T to the end...
Image

Deeper water is still about 200'-250' SW of the end of the pier...
Image

Still the mullet were having a good time...
Image

Image

There were few fishermen on the pier trying to snag them,
and these guys were waiting for them to move out...
Image

There is still about 30'-40' of "fishable" water just outside the pierhouse on the eastside (probably better at night),
and about 100' farther out toward the T.

"Blue Pants" Bob had said he's fished the pier 3 times this week and caught just 3 flounder :?
But he did say the lizard fish are IN :P

I saw nothing there except the mullet and a few small whiting in the pass.
The water was so clear, I opted to go to the East End jetties instead.
Couldn't believe who I saw :P
Image

Yep, it's so bad at the DIPier that Bob was fishing the 'Free Pier' at the east end.
He said he's even considering fishing (dare I say it) Cedar Point

Anyway, after chatting with Bob I headed on around Fort Gaines and fished the jetties on the south side of the east end.
It was a great looking day with near perfect weather and calm waters.
Air temp middle 60s with a light N-NE wind.
And the water was very clear (about 4'-6' visibility)

The view looking SW from the end of the road...
Image

Surprisingly, there were just a few other folks fishing...
Image

But I chose an unoccupied one
Image

My first live shrimp produced a fat (but slightly short) flounder that promptly went back.
The second live shrimp was eaten by a fat 15" (and slightly legal) speckled trout
Image

The next live shrimp I sight-fed to a nice sized sheepshead (3.2#)
A LOT of fun on my 4# spin outfit 8)
Image

And a few minutes later I sight fished another 3# sheepshead (the water was THAT CLEAR 8)
I didn't see any more sheepshead after landing the second one, so I changed tactics and started float fishing a live shrimp just above the bottom.

This 21" (4#) flounder thought it was a good idea too
Image

Four good fish in just over an hour, but just as quickly it was over as the tide stopped moving :(
Still it was a beautiful afternoon, so I hung around a few more hours to complete my "Daylight Savings Time - Fall Back" ritual.
I had purposefully NOT reset my watch last night :?
 Instead I waited UNTIL I was fishing, and THEN set my watch back so I would have another hour to fish
Gotta luv it!

Thank You Lord for a great day for fishing :!:
