Slow bass day surprise

Post by DigiCowboy »

I had been working a usually productive canal for about an hour. I saw a lot of bass pairing up, but very skittish and not eating. I was throwing a centipede with a small splitshot in shallow water. Something caught my eye, out in the open water sitting still. It looked nice size, but not bass-shaped. The I saw the jaw and the lateral line stripe. YES!! Snook! I pulled off the centipede and slid a fluke on. In the meantime, I lost sight of the fish, So I started throwing to the edge of the lillypads, once, twice, move down a little, three and then BAM! She slammed the bait the second it landed, came up for a few good headshakes and then headed downstream with me following. A few minutes later she was mine.

A few pics and back on her way she went. Nice way to end a slow day!

Nice snook! I mainly stick to salt water these days, but years ago I caught a decent sized one out of the Snapper Creek on a dead shiner. That made my day!
